I have started to choke spontaneously on my own saliva. Anyone else?
I’m a 75 year old female take no medication and have had no diagnosis. Lately I’m chocking on my own saliva occasionally. The kind of chocking that used to happen only when liquid goes down the wrong way. Now it seems that I spontaneously choke on my own saliva. Anyone have this experience?

I’m dealing with swallow muscles in my neck being weak. When I’m choking I was told to cough really hard. It works for me. I’m being coached by a speech therapist. I suggest you see one for more help.
Hi, China.
Have you consulted an ENT? Might be a good start for finding out what's going on.
Hope this gets you closer to a solution. Choking like you describe can be a scary experience.
All the best!

Hi China,
I agree with /LarryG,
A good ENT doctor will diagnose the problem, How long have you had this problem?

My husband’s side of the family (cousin, father, aunt) all developed this issue later in life. It’s important that you tell your GP that you’re having this problem so they can schedule you with the right specialist. There are treatments available that may help before it worsens.
Please consider seeing an ENT Doctor as well.
Go get checked ASAP.
Could be a symptom of a serious illness. Also, there are speech therapists who specialize in therapy for swallowing issues. I needed one 12 years ago as I have a stricture in my throat.
To the 75 yr old who spontaneously choking on her saliva, idk but perhaps it's a hiatel hernia... yould have to see a specialist, a gastroenterologist. There's a gi bldg at 570 white pond ave in akron ohio. Dr fulton is especially good. Good luck!!!!
