My psychiatrist recommends melatonin which is something you just buy over the counter
. Some people's bodies make more melatonin than others. I was in the hospital a few years back for several nights and I couldn't sleep there they would not give me Xanax which I would take occasionally if I had trouble sleeping I wouldn't give it to me in the hospital cuz it wasn't on my regular regimen of medications but the doctor did give me trazodone in the hospital and that worked but they didn't let's go in the hospital you can't sleep it's so noisy.. I know many people who take trazodone for arthritis it seems to help people.

Yup, impossible to sleep well in a hospital. And if it's not on your med list, it isn't happening.

Right at the moment, I'm on melatonin daily, very low dose doxepin daily, and zolpidem as needed, which is usually 2-3 times a week. All of that kind of works, but not well. And irregular sleep is a migraine trigger for me.

I was on the fence between Ramelteon and Trazodone to try next, but the neurologist tipped the scales. If my primary care doctor disagrees, though, I'll go the Ramelteon route first. I'm not expecting a miracle, so I'm sure that I'll get a chance to try both eventually.
