I talked with my psychiatrist about it and he said his reading of literature about it led him to believe that the majority were not helped but that a minority were. A lot of money to spend on something that may not work. It is ultimately the choice of the person after reviewing all the facts about the efficacy of this device.

Thanks so much! I see that they offer a money back guarantee if it does not work.

It took them 8 weeks to get my money back to me. It's the same as floating them a loan for $700 interest free for 2 months.

@lamerex4         I have seen the item advertised at much less price on other than the manufacturer also.  ladyjane85

I ordered a device three years ago to treat chronic insomnia and it's been great for me. I was addicted to sleeping medication and am now drug free. I use the device four or five times a week. My sleep is much improved and I'm dreaming again, which I find restorative. This is a terrific product and I'd recommend it highly to anyone suffering from the symptoms the device treats. The company staff is very helpful as well if you have questions.

Hello, @izze987 - Apologies for the delayed response. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

I'm wondering if you'd share more about what sleep disorder you were diagnosed with?

I purchased the Fisher Wallace Stimulator for insomnia and recommend it. I am getting benefit from it. Use it every night and am getting longer and more restful sleep. I do not have depression or anxiety.

I bought and used this faithfully. It did nothing for anxiety, depression. Pain

There were some really interesting comments here, but I suggest that this stream be redone, as I have no clue as to if the things being referred to are for the Alpha-Stim, or the Fisher Wallace device. I know that Alpha-Stim supposedly has patented their square wave signal. And they differentiate themselves in their literature, with some apparent basis, as they seem to have more studies involving their device(s) than Fisher Wallace.

I ended up here, because I own an Alpha-Stim (M model), and I got the M model as it was only moderately more expensive than the plain Alpha-Stim, and with all of the things coming out about NSAIDs, I thought that having an alternative means of pain relief could be a good idea. I currently have hip replacement surgery scheduled, and was wondering about the utility of the AlphaStim M in that context.

Did you know that you can start a discussion?
I would suggest that you go to the Joint Replacements group:
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/joint-replacements/
And start one asking about using your specific stimulator after a hip replacement. Perhaps someone in that group has tried it and will respond to you.

And be sure to talk to your surgeon about when it might be safe to do this.

Just FYI, after my latest (shoulder) surgery, the recovery protocol was very specific. Use ice, anti-inflammatories, Tylenol and prescribed pain medications for the first 2 months. No heat, massage, stimulators, vibration devices, acupuncture or myofascial release near the surgical site with physician approval.

The doc is a highly regarded expert with a high success rate, so I didn't question the advice.
