Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

I am taking NAC but so far no help. I am also taking Lung Flush. Still coughing like crazy and it does not let up until I throw up huge amounts of white phlegm. I got NAC first from a health store but found it cheaper of Amazon.

Thank you for your reply.

I did send a message to primary care dr regarding NAC. I have found a cough syrup which seems to help called Chestal (a homeopathic) Cough & Cold syrup - offers some relief, some of the time. Also, I try not to get nasal congestion as breathing through my mouth causes more coughing.

If I hear anything positive from the doctor regarding NAC dosage, etc. I will post the details. I am hoping something will be of help.

I also had this for months. What finally worked was using omeprizole for silent acid reflux. I didn’t know I had acid reflux but I guess I did. The mucus was constantly in my throat. Three months of omeprizole and being careful with my diet and after close to a year it’s almost gone. This I believe was from covid as is my vertigo

i will try this omeprizole, took you 3 months to see difference?

No it was sooner than that. That was the recommended time to stay on it. Worked in a week or two. The mucus slowly diminished. I also needed to be careful not to eat the foods that can trigger acid reflux which for me are carbs and alcohol.

I’ve just started a vagus nerve stimulation device, Neurotrac Multitens at very low setting ( as recommended on ‘AVA: a vagus adventure’ Facebook group)…so far after 3 days only difference I am getting is popping of ears and more mucus apparent in nose/back of throat….the vagus nerve is supposed to be linked with clearing out ‘passages’, so I think this is what is happening. I’d tried NAC for many months a year or so ago, and didn’t notice any difference.

Well I see I am far from the only one with this problem. I got my second Covid after a cruise in January. But a month before that I had a nasal ablation done for postnasal drip. Unfortunately, the doctor really screwed up and left the nasal passage narrower then it was. (Ok, different story) So the mucous running down my throat is constant, and so is my drippy nose. My lungs feel compressed and I cant take a big deep breath in. Once in awhile there is spasm pains in my lungs. I'll try the gargle thing, because I leave on another cruise the end of this week!
