shaking hands

Posted by kelly2ws @kelly2ws, Feb 8 12:20pm

Hi team long covid! (A team none of us volunteered to be part of.)
I initially got LV in 3/2021 and it has been life changing and not in a good way.
I have been super careful not to expose myself to Covid since then but I caught Covid again 1/2025.
Now my hands are shaking like I have Parkinsons. It is really scary.
Do any of you have any suggestions for me?
Thanks in advance!

kelly2ws, what a sad way to start the new year with covid, I’m very sorry this happened to you. I had covid in 2022 and life was changed then but I also had a second cancer operation too so it was a lot to recover from. I have posted several comments on LC but mostly about rapid heart beats, the shaking hands were also a problem after covid, I think you’re perhaps the first person to bring this up. It’s a big problem because my right hand is affected the most and trying to get control over this is very frustrating, I can’t write well anymore, simple chores are challenging and eating can get pretty crazy…I can’t even put a little make up on so I go without. I hope that this will subside with time, I don’t want to take more medication because they come with their own problems. I just take it in stride and do the best I can, if I fight it, I’ll just shake harder. I hope you will be able to find some help with this, possibly it will go away eventually God willing.

This can also be a function of aging. My husband never had COVID and has, what his physician calls, “an essential tremor”

I definitely agree, shaking in the hands is common with aging for some people, perhaps I might have gotten it eventually but it started after having covid. I never asked for help with it because I know it will calm down eventually, I’ve had other symptoms show up after covid that eventually calmed down.

Hi @kelly2ws. I too long covid since 2021 and kept safe from it again until June 2024. This second time definitely brought on different symptoms and my bodies reaction to things seems to be much quicker/sensitive/
severe. I am finding being even more mindful of anything Im doing or planning on doing, eating, and pacing with real rest is helping to keep some at manageable lesser level and few others for most part subsided so far🤞. I cannot work and know others may not have the life to truly do this difficult level of doing so little yet it seems for so many of us it is vital to enable healing/recovery. Hope this helped🌈

I’m so sorry. What a total bummer. I go Covid 01/2021. My hands still shake, and I have involuntary muscle spasms. I was having seizures which have since been classified as epilepsy. I am taking medication now to calm it all down. My hands still shake, not terrible, but noticeable. I hope the shaking corrects itself for you in no time!

I also have essential tremors but Covid has knocked that off the charts which I don't believe is a normal part of aging. Along with muscle weakness also worse than my right arm because I think the dominant side gets more work this is a nasty symptom but aren't they all? So I guess we're not the only ones.

Thank you for that! I don't believe this is normal aging since it was a sudden onset after covid #2. I also have extensive muscle weakness. I watched my arms and legs shrivel during the first 2 weeks of covid. Now I feel like I can't even try to exercise because I am so exhausted all the time. 🙁
I do not like LC at all.

I am glad in some sense that I’m not alone with this problem, truth be known I suffer a lot from it…I can’t even work with this problem because my writing is illegible and trying to use a keyboard is just as challenging. I sincerely hope that it will minimize over time, amen.

I have very shaky hands and I had somewhat benign tremors before I got Covid and now they're really shaky. My doctor prescribed primidone 50 mg and I tried it for one night and he only slept a few hours it does make you groggy but my shakes almost disappeared the next day. I decided that I needed to sleep so I haven't taken it again but you might try it. Like everything else that has its side effects which may or may not affect you. Unfortunately my shakes are also accompanied by bad muscle weakness and and primidone doesn't help with that. Might be worth a shot for you.

I've found that after covid in 2023 I had it for 23 days that my handwriting is horrible unless I choke my pen.
Anyone else
Of course other things as well 🙄
