So far his "Team" just consists of Me and his Primary care doctor. Blood work shows WBC abnormally high, plus other very low numbers, he also has beginning emphysema. Doctor wants us to come in after the PET/CT scan to discuss plan going forward. Yes, there is a lymph node swelling in the right lung near fissure. Will ask if we should include a pulmonologist at this point. But, interestingly, he has no symptoms other than an occassional cough.

@caregiverwife, A PET scan is a good next step, hopefully that gets approved and scheduled for him soon. There are many paths during the initial diagnosis process. Some will be sent directly to a surgeon, while some will be sent to a pulmonologist. Every case is different. I like to get input from pulmonology if there is a potential benefit from a biopsy, but if surgery is inevitable skipping the risk of a biopsy can make sense too. Hopefully his primary care provider can help to guide things along.
Lymph nodes can react to many different irritants. That lymph node may be contributing to the cough. A cough can be the only symptom when there is something irritating our lungs, sometimes there are no symptoms.
How is he handling the waiting and related stress?
