Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid
Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

Mucinex (or the generic - it's cheaper) for coughing the stuff up without undue strain, and maybe NAC at night to ease the mucous buildup. I've written about NAC extensively in other threads on this board - maybe with a search you can find those posts. NAC (n-acetyl cysteine) is a naturally ocurring protien in the body that is partg of the chain that regulates mucous production. It's not bad for you. Talk to your doc about it and if he/she seems indifferent or perplexed, ask the doc to do some research and get back to you.
If I were dealing with your situation, I'd make a diligent search for a skilled oral surgeon and see about getting those wisdom teeth taken care of. One opinion isn't enough.
I’ve seen 6 ENTs. Much better with Singulair and Budesonide nasal rinse after covid 2-1/2 years ago.
Yes! I can! I never thought about it being connected to Covid until I read your post. I will be following this post. It’s been so frustrating and miserable.
I too have a build up of mucus constantly since I caught covid.
I have tried everything possible nothing worked.
Since you saying it could be your wisdom teeth, I am wondering I had a tooth removed at the front and have implant instead could that be causing it.
I might speak to my dentist about it and do research.
I hope I can find solution,
All the best with you..
I am happy for you, I hope this can be good news, I lost hope struggling with constant mucus mainly from left side of my throat and nazel.
I have tried everything..
It’s been 3yrs and half almost.
I guess you didn’t take the vaccine because there was no vaccine yet.
I was thinking might be the vaccine caused this mucus.
I know exactly how you feel. I started taking Musinex daily anti finally did help. I hope you get relief soon.
I have had this problem since early 2022 with constant congestion and mucus in my throat.
The pulmonologist said that he sees this in many patients resulting from covid. The duration is indefinite, from going away after a few months to ongoing for years. There has not been post-covid research nor has there been enough time for research to offer any solution.
This affects my oxygen absorption and has left me with asthmatic bronchial spasms. My daily routine includes warm compresses in the morning, sinus rinse, antihistamine, Tylenol, cough syrup, pursed lip breathing and oxygen supplement as needed.
From reading comments on this site, I will look into NAC.
I thank everyone who is willing to share their experience.
I have been able to reduce my nighttime nasal drip by about 70% through the use of a supplement called N-acetylcysteine (NAC). To be clear I sometimes still wake up coughing but it's once a night at most as opposed to not being able to sleep at all. It's NOT an instant cure and it took many weeks to see measurable results.
N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a mucolytic agent that helps thin and loosen mucus in the respiratory tract. NAC hydrolyzes the disulfide bonds of mucus proteins to decrease mucus viscosity, thereby facilitating its clearance.
You may have heard that the FDA was trying to take NAC off the supplement market. The cause was that their rules say anything that was ever approved as a prescription drug can't be sold over the counter as a nutritional supplement. Nobody is ever on record as having been hurt by NAC and on the contrary, the various other benefits are the continuing subject of ongoing published research. NAC was a common prescription for mucus-related complaints in the 60s and 70s.
Interestingly, NAC is still used clinically to treat acetaminophen (Tylenol) poisoning.
Removing NAC from the market was a timed move by the Empire.
I am taking NAC but so far no help. I am also taking Lung Flush. Still coughing like crazy and it does not let up until I throw up huge amounts of white phlegm. I got NAC first from a health store but found it cheaper of Amazon.
