He cant stop coughing.
My husband cant get rid of this cough and it is really draining him. He has tried nebulizing w sodium and then wearing the vest. Lately he has tried Qvar but not Albuterol. Has anyone had luck w Albuterol stopping the cough, what about an antibiotic? He has also tried Robitussin DM and keeps coughing - he cant relax and it is embarrassing. Thank you all so much for your input. Miriam

@nadia25 do you think it would be worth checking in with your husband’s team at NJH to see if they have any thoughts that may be helpful to your husband’s present circumstances?
No spacer , no nublizer. I use it just like the store hands it to me. I rarely have to use it anyway so I hate all the extra cleaning and all with the spacer. I have enough medical stuff to do.
We went to National Jewish in Denver
This is good to know - thank you!
Yes there is also levalbuterol in the inhaler and nebulizer form. I used albuterol for over a year and I was super jittery and my heart was racing. It was switched to levalbuterol- it’s much better
I’m a 71 yr ild man with a similar problem with the coughing. My pulmonologist has me nebulizing 3 items: Tobramycin, Albuterol & 7% saline solution - all these twice daily. The Tobramycin regime is 28 days in 28 days off. I clear my airways as best I can morning and night - this helps tremendously with the coughing.

Thanks for this info. -good to know. Right now he is using the saline nebulizer, then vest and then Q-Var. He coughed off and on all day yesterday so we r trying this new strategy today. Fingers crossed! that coughing is so hard on the body (and the mind.)
If the q-var doesnt stop the coughing we will try and switch to the levalbuterol. Again, thanks so much for everyone's help. We really appreciate it.
Thanks so much for this useful info. He is only doing the nebulizer 1x/day. Would 2x/day make a big difference in the cough?
Probably best to ask his doctor but for me it is necessary to clear my lungs of all the mucus that builds up. I do a morning treatment when I first get up. I do my evening treatment 2 hours before bedtime. I don’t cough when I sleep. I also use an airway clearance device similar to “Aerobika”. It’s a flutter valve that helps me cough up the mucus. My pulmonologist at Kirkland clinic gave me a less expensive model..
I understand that the coughing is a nuisance and embarrassing. Oftentimes I have to leave the room, theatre or church service. People think I’m contagious when they hear the rattling in my lungs. I can’t help it and I’m sure your husband can’t either. My wife is pretty understanding and thankfully doesn’t get grossed out by all the hacking and coughing.
