Can chronic itching be caused by Neuropathy
I have had Peripheral Neuropathy for about 20 years.
The only symptoms I’ve ever really had is a lot of tingling, numbness and spasms in the legs and toes.
For the past 12 months I’ve developed this chronic itch that started in my scalp but is now my whole body.
I have absolutely no rash or dryness anywhere.
My neurologist has told me he hasn’t heard of neuropathy causing itching which surprises me.
I’ve been to a Dermatologist who says he can’t see anything that’s causing it.
My Dr says she thinks it’s from high Uric acid.
In totally confused as to what it could be as it’s driving me crazy.
All three of them can only suggest Amiltriptyline which I’m not willing to take as I’m super sensitive to medication.
Has anyone here had the same problem and what did you do for it please.

I have chronic itching that I experience all over, and I know a bad case is coming when my scalp starts itching. It drives me mad. Suicidal. I don’t know what to do about it. I take Neurontin but it only helps a little bit.
I have this periodically, I take a combination marijuana gummy. It has cbd, cbn .and 5 units of thc. It helps me.
I have suffered from PN for many years but have also had a lot of treatment for sun exposure on my head and elsewhere (Squamous and Basal cell carcinoma). At least a couple of times a day I have an itch on my head that only an aggressive scratching session will satisfy the attack. Can't determine the exact cause.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. I started a new RA medication called Actemra. I took 2 shots and developed itching starting with my neck then moving all over my body. I have no rash at all. Dr told me to stop the meds but after missing 2 shots I still have the itching with no rash. I think it has to do with neuropathic itch. I have neuropathy in my feet and it has caused itching so I wonder if it has something to do with the nerves in my body
I recently joined this support group and have focused on neuropathy without pain, and balance problems. But, I did not mention that when the weird sensations and numbness of my feet begin, I also had itching all over that began at night. Actually, the weird sensation and itching started probably a year before the numbness became an issue. But, No rash, no redness, and only at night. I started looking at meds I took in the evening. Researched my meds and looked at reactions. Took
a while, trial and error. For me, it was the Xarelto to prevent blood clots for Afib. Only 1% of people report this with blood thinners; but that is quite high actually. Just not a common reaction. I have to take a Benadryl with the Xarelto, and I take another Benadryl when I actually get in bed, much later. For me, it was the trick. I still have the weird sensations, such as the seams of PJs irritate me, not itchy. I wear them inside out. I cannot stand having the pant leg to move up, so I wear loose socks that cover the hem. 🤔😄 I can only tolerate a top sheet, rarely even a thin blanket. So, I think nerves are involved. And, from my experience, doctors are clueless. I hope you find your answer. The itching was driving me insane. I let my cardiologist know and he said he would tell his other patients and tell his drug reps.
