Can chronic itching be caused by Neuropathy
I have had Peripheral Neuropathy for about 20 years.
The only symptoms I’ve ever really had is a lot of tingling, numbness and spasms in the legs and toes.
For the past 12 months I’ve developed this chronic itch that started in my scalp but is now my whole body.
I have absolutely no rash or dryness anywhere.
My neurologist has told me he hasn’t heard of neuropathy causing itching which surprises me.
I’ve been to a Dermatologist who says he can’t see anything that’s causing it.
My Dr says she thinks it’s from high Uric acid.
In totally confused as to what it could be as it’s driving me crazy.
All three of them can only suggest Amiltriptyline which I’m not willing to take as I’m super sensitive to medication.
Has anyone here had the same problem and what did you do for it please.

During my first year of neuropathy, I have many variations of it. I had horrible itching in my legs. It was driving me crazy I tried creams so on it so forth and then I realized it wasn’t on the outside from the inside, and I have to say after a month or two of literally scratching my legs till they almost played and went away and just to be clear I was on medication before the itching started and I’m medication now. Hope that gives you a little hope that it might go away for a while, but with neuropathy, you never know I’ve had multiple symptoms come and go, and I went into my third year all the best
@lakelariet thank you for your help. My itching seems to be getting a little worse and I go to my doctor next week so I’ll ask her if she has any ideas. Thank you. Bcool123
1)Are you a female of menopausal age? If so, it might be that. Test your hormones. Try progesterone cream, etc.
2) Do you have an older mattress. I did. Found I have an allergy to dust mites. The itching from the dust mites/old mattress was intense. Threw the mattress to the curb and cleaned the bed frame and bed room. Another person I knew told me that they had the problem with their mattress too.
Right now gabapentim seems to be helping some. 🤞
