Any long Covid people here who developed lung nodules?

Posted by ericy210 @ericy210, Jun 16, 2023

As part of the clinical long Covid study I’ve been doing for a year, I had a clean chest X-ray a year ago. Monday they found a 9mm nodule in my right posterior lung as well as “minor air trapping.” I’ve never smoked.

They referred me to their (University of Illinois Chicago) Lung Nodule department. The said they have seen cases lung nodules with long Covid. My symptoms have been fatigue and brain fog. This was very unexpected and worrying, since my dad died of lung cancer two years ago and cancer also got his sister and mom.

Have you seen any reputable studies or articles on this combination? I’m finding quite a few on my own and would like to see someone else’s “homework” if they’ve already been looking at it.

Yes! A year after I had Covid ( relatively mild case- just severe cough) & 10 months of long Covid my lung X-rays showed many nodules. My dr said my lungs looked like I had a history of chronic lung disease. I hadn’t smoked since 1970, and had no symptoms til Covid, plus routine X-rays in the past didn’t show any nodules so I know it’s the long Covid. I still have shortness of breath but no cough
I’m a retired nurse & when I read the X-ray report I was shocked & scared

Hello batwood23,

Do you mind updating on your lung nodules situation after covid? I found out in Sept 2024 I have four nodules, all ground glass. Pulmonologist seems to think they are from previous infections. I haven't even been sick in a long time. Sept 2023 I did have a relatively mild case of covid. Sick with heavy cough about 2-3 weeks. I guess that was about a year before the scan. Do you think that nodules from covid could still be present a year later? I was scanned again last month Jan 2025 and the nodules are still there, no change. My next scan is Sept 2025. Is this what it is now? scanning every year waiting for the other shoe to drop?? I'm finding it difficult to cope with that. Wished I could know more what these things are or more importantly if they will become anything. Hope you are doing well now. Wishing you good health!

Yes. I have a 7mm nodule in my right lower lung base, first spotted in August of 2021 following a Covid infection in March of 2020 which began my 4-year nightmare of Long Covid. I also have opacities now, with COPD (all new since Covid). The nodule appears to be stable - last scanned in Sept of 2024. I lost my mom to non-small cell lung cancer in 2023.

I also have lung nodules, One is 4mm and the other is 6mm. They’ve been stable for 6 months but I get checked every six months now until October, 2025. If no change, then scans will be finished. Good luck everyone .
