Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

I think that when it comes to our neuropathy problems we will end up finding more solutions than the medical profession has. I didn't know that I had any numbness in my toes until I wasn't aware that my toe was run over in a department store in my early 40's! I knew that my feet were cold and I wore socks to bed and years later my hands were cold also. I have fibromyalgia. I was talking to a gal that has it also and she recommended that I take some organic encapsulated fruits and vegetables because they helped her. It didn't work to help my fibromyalgia but it cured my bursitis in my hips and helped my neuropathy in my feet and legs. The product is Juice Plus. I don't sell it but I still use it. They make different capsules and the ones that help with my neuropathy are the berry ones. They have strawberries, blueberries etc. Well I ran out of them a couple of months ago and it took a few weeks for the problems to come back. I kept forgetting to order some and I regret that since sometimes my feet and legs are not comfortable with the numbness and pain. I have to take more than the recommended amount. I'm taking 6 a day. The normal dose is only 2 . When we are working at healing our body it starts on the cellular level and that takes time. There is a mega dose of the berries in each capsule so I don't think that eating a lot of berries will work very well. Although I like blue berries and eat them sometimes too. This extra berry treatment takes about 6 weeks to see success. I'm 78 and I find that it takes more to try to keep things going than for younger people. This has worked wonders for me. I hope that this has been helpful to someone. Best wishes of health to all.

I also started wearing New Balance shoes years ago to help stabilize my feet but not particularly for neuropathy. The model # is
848.

I bought a pair of Hoka Gaviota 5 shoes today and insoles that will supposedly take the pressure off my heals. Apparently I have high arches which can impact your balance because less of your feet are in contact with the ground. I also was informed I wasn't walking correctly. I wasn't walking heal to toe which affects both balance and stability. My therapist is having me stand on on one foot and walking slowly heal to toe. It's not going at all well.
When I put my Hokas on at the store and walked around, I was having even more balance problems than when I first went in wearing my New Balance 1540's. But Hokas have a wider toe area so more shoe is in contact with the ground. Hopefully learning to walk correctly will improve my balance & stability. For $293 things better improve. Best shoes for me have been New Balance 990's and 1540's. Also SAS (San Antonio shoes.) I like Mephisto shoes too. When I had plantar fasciitis Mephisto shoes, relieved my pain the most.
Fingers crossed the Hokas help,
Jake

I have had improved balance while walking and a more secure "ground feel" when I wear "barefoot shoes," sometimes called "ground shoes. I have several pair. The pair that works best for me are like water shoes, but with a heavier sole. They are inexpensive and available on Amazon in many styles. Good luck!

This is so interesting to me....I am new to this group and also suffer from loss of sensation and balance due to neuropathy of soles of feet specifically. I am hesitant to put out a couple of hundred dollars at this point as I feel I have already spent a lot of money. When I went to podiatrist for the first time, she asked me to buy a boot which I did for I think $150.00. I had never seen her before and began to talk about building me some sort of brace in the future. I didn't go back to her as I thought that was questionable for her to say after seeing me for 5 mins.!!! Does anyone think a podiatrist is better to see than a doctor (ie. neurologist?). Thanks for all of the good info from everyone. This problem seems to be a journey rather than a sprint. Susan

I have a very bad balance problem, my doctor explained it to me in a very clear and understandable way, With neuropothy we are not grounded. Makes sense now, as soon as I put just one finger on something I am balanced and grounded, all it takes is one finger on anything. Crazy! The best shoes for me are Hoka Bondis. Believe me I have tried everything including Mephistos, I always go back to Hoka Bondis, lots of store have them on sale, online. Best wishes to you..
