GABA for anxiety and blood pressure reduction
I'm looking at Gaba for help with restless sleep, anxiety, and possibly blood pressure reduction - I've read that Gaba can lower blood pressure but from what I see it's maybe only a 10% or less reduction - my BP is marginally high, even on BP meds, so I'd be OK with a further 10% lowering. The BP meds I'm currently taking are LISINOPRIL 40MG, Propranolol 40mg (x2), and Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg - I'd be delighted to get rid of the diuretic! Any issues with Gaba and the BP meds I'm currently taking? Thanks !

I've been taking Lisinopril for my borderline high blood pressure for close to 20 years with great results. My BP is always excellent on every doctor's visit.
I am very careful with supplements. I do research before I add any. Gaba in my case may interact with my prescription for seizure control as gaba can alter the neurotransmitters in the brain. I take lisinopril for BP. I also take escitalopram 10mg daily. Please be careful.
Talking with my Doctor today - I'm not scared of much at all, EXCEPT having a stroke, which can be brought on by high BP - so I am very focused on keeping my BP under control. I've tried several of the home BP machines, and all turned out to be unreliable - high readings at home, and when I go to the doctor, the BP is OK. I'd rather take extra BP meds or supplements rather than having a stroke. I'm 75, could lose a few pounds, but otherwise OK.
Talk to your pharmacist (not just doctor) about drug interactions. But if your home BP results are not matching the doctor's, bring your home cuff in and get help learning to use it correctly - or why the results are different. If it turns out you don't actually have such high BP you might be able to get off some of the meds!
