COPD and Anxiety/Depression medication
Hello. I wonder if anyone could share their experiences about having COPD with severe anxiety and depression? I suffered from severe anxiety prior to being diagnosed with COPD and am on medication for it. Since being diagnosed with COPD it’s necessary to be careful what medications can be taken and many aren’t considered safe as they could lower respiration rates.
I’m on a low dose of Klonopin, Mirtazapine & Lamictal. I was just prescribed Rexulti as an add on in hopes it will help along with the other meds to lower my anxiety. Has anyone taken Rexulti? I’m very nervous to start it but have to somehow find a way to get my anxiety under control.
I’d appreciate any thoughts and suggestions as I’m having a dreadful time with the anxiety which the COPD meds add to…Albuteral, prednisone, etc. I’m really feeling desperate to find a solution. Thank you for any suggestions and ways you’ve found success.

I was prescribed Mirtazapine (low dose - 7.5 mg) for insomnia which arose after covid, (or after covid treatment, not sure which), but after trying half a dozen other scrips, this one worked. The anxiety that arises from shortness of breath, I don't know how anybody could medicate for that and still function.
Thank you. I’ve tried quite a few different medications, all unsuccessfully. My anxiety isn’t so much from shortness of breath, rather a serious pre- existing case of severe anxiety.
I take Lexapro and it works for me. I tried to go off it because I seem to take so many meds these days and my anxiety went through the roof. Back on Lexapro and starting to feel less anxious.
I also take Mirtazapine and it works very well.
However my Doc has me on 30 mg nightly.
I take 20 mg celexa for 10yrs. Works well.
Hi cynthia69, I’m interested in what your pulmonologist has said about Celexa? That’s one I could ask about as it hasn’t been mentioned. Will look forward to what you’ve been told.
