Cystoscopy with Fulguration and Resection: What's recovery like?

Posted by rose1966 @rose1966, Jan 25 9:32am

My husband will be having a Cystoscopy with Fulguration&/Or Resection Tumor 2.6cm Also, Cystourethroscopy (cystectomy) with insertion, indwelling ureteral stent. Also,, Urography, retrograde w/w/o Kidneys Ureters, bladder.
The Urologist said he has to wait for the Pathology Report to tell what Stage…if it is Muscle invasive or not and if he was able to remove tumor.
He will be leaving with a Foley catheter. This will be Jan 29.
Has anyone had this done? Should I have anything special at home for his recovery? Thank you and God bless 🙏

I had this done a month ago. I really didn’t need anything special just my bathrobe for convenience and to hide my new pee purse. I hope you caught it early and everything goes well.

I had this procedure done and it was non muscle invasive. I’ve been on gem/doc chemo for 18 months & have had good results so far. I couldn’t tolerate the BCG treatment. After surgery recovery took a few weeks. Plenty of rest & fluids are helpful. I hope & pray things go well for your husband.

I too had the bag. The urologist took it out on the 3 day. What a relief. Even after removal, some pain peeing and did not totally empty the bladder. That is normal according to the urologist. Took about a week to get to some normalacy. My tumor was about 3.0cm

Sleeping was the worse since I had to sleep on my back. To allow me a bit of movement I hung the bag on the bed railing so I could lay on my side. For those 3 days I was in a bathrobe the entire time. I had to cut a bit the pjs so the tube went out the zipper part. Made draining easier.

I drank a lot of iced tea. That makes me pee a lot, which is what the doctor wanted.

@peter51f Thank you …The Iced Tea sounds great…nice way to hydrate. Going to do that for my husband. Also, I got the robe. I suppose I’ll leave with him from the hospital with his shorts on and the Foley catheter under the warm robe. Thanks for the tips. God bless xx

He will have spasms pretty regular until cath is removed. Urgency to pee is constant fir a few days. We put plastic on bed for a few days. Good luck. Its not fun but needed.

@scott232 Thank you. His urologist will take out the Foley Catheter tomorrow morning. Yes, it seems to be painful…he has pain meds to help. The Urologist also put in a stent for his right kidney. The tumor was blocking it….I think. I know he has a stent. I gave him a heating pad for his lower back. He’s drinking 2 liters of water a day. The Urologist told us he is pretty sure he took out all the tumors…One was 2.6cm ….another was a mass of 6cm, I think that’s what the report said. We just need to wait for the Pathology report. I have all these notes the urologist wrote on My Chart…hard to understand. We will need an oncologist.
Just praying no cancer broke through the muscle wall of the bladder.
My husband just wants to get a RC so that he doesn’t have to keep doing the Turbts and he can live longer.
I’ve been praying all is well with you and that you have a wife or companion to help you out, if needed xx
