dealing with rosacea. - any one found something helpful
I was diagnosed with rosacea approx. 3 years ago. Since that time I have used a medication called Metrogel 1% nightly. It is helping but not controlling the redness 100%. Mainly on sides of my nose and chin. I have a few red scars on my face that are from rosacea bumps ( like an acne).
I use sun screen and don't drink which I read can irritate rosacea.
Would like to hear from anyone who has tried other treatments that have helped . Thank you .

I don’t know if I’m too late for you to even be checking this post, but I suffer type two rosacea as well. None of the metro gel, ivermectin topicals helped me at all with anything other than the itching. The pustules, bumps, and inflammation, stayed the same. When the pain became too much and redness became unsightly, I did a round of minocycline until it cleared. Now, without fail, every night I apply a layer of prescription azelaic acid. Nothing else has worked to keep the spots at bay. I have not had a flare in over three years. I do have spots from rosacea scars that will surface occasionally, but the acid will usually take them down if I apply it twice daily. It saved me from antibiotics. Before I started it, I was taking a maintenance dose every day. That completely tore up my gut. I hope this helps. If you’re still reading posts, please reach out and share anything. You may have found yourself by now. Good luck!
Is the azelaic acid from a dermatologist? I just had a huge flare (never had one before), possibly from an OTC retinol (which I had used in the past, no problems) the doc gave me doxy (i took for 3 days and stopped) and a compounded cream of metro, ivermectin and one other medication. We’ll see! I would love all those pustules to go away. I’m 72.
I’m 73 years old and had my first flare in 2020 right at the onset of the epidemic. I was covered in bumps and open pustules from my eyes down. The only thing that took the pustules away was 200 mg of doxycycline daily. I did not want to continue on with a maintenance dose of antibiotics so the doctor prescribed azelaic acid. It is prescription and quite inexpensive. I pay about seven dollars for a tube that lasts at least a year. It does sting a little upon application, especially if your flare is active. I think if I had another bad flare, I would give in to the antibiotics until the open sore areas were healed before I used azelaic. I think using it on open pustules would be pretty uncomfortable. I can say it works keeping the skin clear. Good luck!
I just looked at this new cream the derm prescribed. It is compounded specialty something or other from a place called skin medicinals. It contains aze;aic acid 15%, metronidazole 1%/ivermectin 1%. Hoping it makes a difference.
