How did you successfully taper off of 0.5 lorazepam (Ativan)?

Has anyone tapered from 0.5mg of lorazepam per day? Can you share your experience? Thank you.

I've had problems sleeping since turned 60 but
can't understand why. Did not need meds until then,
but anything that helps is welcome.
Did not know that insomnia is a side effect of
tapering off some meds.

Yes, when I reduced my morning lorazepam from .5 to .25 I had insomnia and then looked online and realized a slower 5 to 10% taper every 2 to 4 weeks is better. Also excercising helps. I take 300 mg of Gabenpentin and 150 mg of Trazadone to sleep at night. Exercise can help dramatically and no naping.

I love my Lorazepam for anxiety & sleep. I have used it for years & don't seem to have any side effects. I am 80+ & if it is affecting my brain, I can't tell so far, so do not intend to stop something that helps me. Forget what other people say as they are not you! I also take an anti- depressant= maybe that is why I am usually a happy person. My husband just died in June & without these helps I would be a MESS!
Good luck with whatever you decide. KayR

I take my Lorezapam in the evening along with an
anti-depressant since both are said to make you sleepy.
At one time I took the Loraz. in the morning but then decided if I was having trouble sleeping, why not take it close to bedtime.
I think even younger folk forget where they parked.....
and as far as spilling is concirned.....

Good for you. In your 80’s if it is not broke don’t fix it.
I am sorry about you loss. Hang in there.

Just enjoy your life and know your husband would want you to move on.
Find joys in your children and grandchildren if you have some.
Yesterday picking up my two youngest granddaughters at the bus stop and seeing the pure joy and excitement in their eyes made my day.
Be happy you are alive even in these tumultuous times.

I have no grandchildren.
Move on, yes, but what does that entail?

I've gone down from 1.0 per day to 1.0 every 4 days. I've made a cut every time I'm due for s refill. The anxiety thst crescendos at the day is very real, but magnesium and melatonin an hour or so brings on sleepiness. I row mid-afternoon for exercise, again to help bring on fatigue. I try not to snack close to when I use the melatonin/magnesium so I dont retard their effectiveness. Shortly I will deop to just 2 per week down from 7 per week. Another way: down to about 8 per month from 30-32 per month. All above done in connection with provider on quarterly status appoinment so have feedback all along this schedule I chose. My goal is 0 with a total three month on hand supply of 5 tablets. I would like to get there by September of this year. This has been a very gradual process with some real fear of how well I could stick to the cuts, including fearing if I would ever get rid of the underlying anxiety. Quite simply I had reached my limit on how many pills I was willing to take a day so lorazepam is what I picked to ditch. Next on my list is Paroxetine, another long term project.
