I found a website that has a pile of (what I believe to be) good information, and encouragement.
I'm not expert on SI joint treatment, but I've found the site to be helpful... Perhaps it can be helpful for you, also? https://sijointsaga.com/
(I'm NOT affiliated with the website)
I'm also reading "The Way Out..." by Alan Gordon, for the 2nd. time - I'm currently pursuing a "Pain Reduction Therapy" (PRT) therapist... what the book touts.
Using the brains neural plasticity... the ability to re-wire the brain, to react differently to nerve pain signals seems to be, at the very least, a way to reintroduce my body to my brain as something other than "the enemy".
@joelhoward1092 Yes. If I have muscles aching somewhere, that is my clue to look for the cause of the problem. With my neck and shoulders, I will work on tight areas with the myofascial release stretching. I also do this on my lower leg because of an ankle fracture 4 years ago and surgical scar tissue there. Once I work out the tightness, the ankle pain stops. It has to be caused by uneven tension between the opposite sides of my leg due to the injury. I work on tight chest muscles around the collar bone area. By doing all of this, I stay ahead of issues and am relatively pain free.
I found a sports medicine doc who is an expert on SI disfunction. It took me years to locate him. He diagnosed my problem as "Right on Right Sacral Torsion", He performed a manual manipulation of my sacral joint and hips. He prescribed Physical Therapy to be done by someone knowledgeable about this diagnosis. It has taken many many months of physical therapy that required 100 percent follow through on my part! It was all worth it! Eventually I gained enough muscle by doing specific exercises to hold the correction of this joint. So it is very possible for others to find relief of pain if you find knowledgeable doctors and physical therapists! However, you must be able to commit yourself to a demanding exercise program for life.
@denisejones00 - I believe my pain is caused by the SI joint, but after diagnostic tests and one steroid injection, I was skeptical. My pain is a dull ache in my right buttock that can stop me from walking around the block (and I'm an athlete; tennis, fly fishing, basketball).
I started doing a regimen of PT daily for the last 13 days and I'm feeling a lot of relief! My docs in my area, so far, have offered to explore my lower lumbar with an MRI after I complained that the SI joint injection was of no help. But I'm going to continue to strengthen and stretch with PT until it doesn't help me! I would say I am 70% better due to PT.
Thanks for your encouragement with the PT!

1 ReactionI am very sorry to hear that. It is so frightening that in this day and age of technology that there is nothing better to offer for chronic pain.
