Waking up at 3 am
What do you do when you wake up at 3 am and can't easily get back to sleep? You only have 2-3 more hours until you want to get up, so taking medications isn't a great idea because then you will oversleep.

I’ve had it for over a year. I have wondered why and suspect post covid syndrome. I’ve tried various things, but nothing helped that much. It has improved on it’s own, but I still wake up between 2-4. Now, I can usually return to sleep. Plus, I go to sleep early between 8-9 p.m. so, I normally get 6 hours before I wake up now. I’d like to sleep from 11 a.m. to 7 a.m.
I had to go to a sleep psychologist. He told me to force myself to stay up until 10:30 or 11:00 every night for two weeks. I then switched to a 9:30 bedtime and was able to sleep 7-8 hours a night.
Thanks for the tip. I will try it.
That's interesting. My circadian sleep cyle has een of for several years. I've gone from night to swing to grave in my sleeping cycles. I'm really fed up with it. That along with nerve damage from cancer tratment 11 years ago have invaded my life. I've been taking R-Alpha Lipoic Acid for almost a year. I still suffer with nerve damage. Soon I will inquire about acupuncture treatments.
I am currently having a similar problem. My neurologist who also treats me for RLS, says to think of a pleasant thought or memory from the past. I will have this issue for maybe days or a few weeks, then it goes away, only to return weeks later.

I’m actually now convinced it’s my hands going to sleep that wakes me up.
I also wake up at 3am. I go to sleep at 10, up at 7. I no longer fight it. If I'm awake more than 5 minutes, I sit up and read with a yellow, low level light. Not an exciting book (scriptures) but I take notes and read until my eyes feel heavy, then promptly put the book down and go right back to sleep. It's made a world of difference to quit fighting it, no longer stressed about it which often meant 2 or more hours awake. Now it's 30-60 minutes. I also use herbs, magnesium, melatonin.
Restoril, Dalmane, Chloral Hydrate, Ambien, Diazepam. Christ! Someone ask their doctor to prescribe one of these. They work much better than anything else on this post.
Some of us prefer to stay away from Rx meds for sleep issues.
I recently bought Somnapure soft chews made by Force Factor at a discount store. No melatonin but mag citrate, saffron and a 100 mg selection of herbs, which includes L-theanine and hops extract among others.
OMG this works as well as my CBD tincture, and I have serious issues with 3 am wake-up’s (they have zero to do with urination either) . However, this product has been discontinued!! Now I am going to have to try to replicate this one my own putting together the ingredients Firce Factor used.
Hi,
In chinese medicine, certain organs begin to wake up at 0200- 0300. I do more acupuncture than western medicine as there ar emore cures, with less side effects. Before my head injury, this would happen to me and acupuncture was the answer. It's also related to circadian rhythms.
Now, mind. It's not a one and done deal. (SAve that for the bad boy friend) You may have to go several times for your long lasting solution.
