Thank you, my regular doctor is just gonna watch it, but I have a follow up with the surgeon at the end of the month. We’ll see what they say. It might be fluid or a benign cyst… I know the body doesn’t like empty spots. I’m doing OK after the radiation. I just didn’t expect my skin not to go completely back to normal. It’s still kind of pink with like scar tissue from the treatment, but I figured if this keeps me cancer free I’ll do it. It’s just weird. But I am grateful. I appreciate you.
How many treatments did you have?
I am wrestling with closing between 5 consecutive, probably stronger and 15 total lesser strength, but longer period……

So, what length of radiation did u have…..
Had surgery 12/6/24…..estrogen and progesterone negative, grade 3 ……Radiation choices are 16 day or 5 day of stronger rads……
Trying to decide which and what would be repercussions if I do 5 days?
Honestly I did 20 rounds Monday through Friday and that was not hard at all. I finished them back on July 10 of 2024 and I have no regrets. It was not hard at all for me. You will feel fatigue, but that fades away.

I had 5 consecutive days, 600 cGy each, total 3000 cGy. I think they are now doing 5 days but spacing them out with a day in between at the facility I went to. I had no skin issues.

Thanks for your comments, I also would love to hear from someone who did it in 5 days, which is one I have been offered……
You being so recent gives me less anxiety about it…..
I have Stage 1a DCIS. I was offered 5 radiotherapy treatments. My radiotherapy was called hypo-fractionated, meaning (I think) that I received fewer but larger doses of radiation. I wasn't given the choice of more but weaker doses. In my case, the only noticeable side effect is very dry skin on the breast that was treated, and that is slowly disappearing. Except for that, I wouldn't know I'd even had radiotherapy.
I agree with cbaxter--overall, radiotherapy is easy--although initially a bit frightening.
In 1999 I was diagnosed with DCIS. At that time I was not very educated about breast cancer. I was not a candidate for radiation or chemo and I had a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using a latt flap. I was under anesthesia for 16 hours and was left very disfigured and had to have all the reconstruction done over. I ended up getting implants-very long story. I did not know that I could have just insisted that they insert a marker and check it periodically. Sure wish I had!
I was diagnosed with DCIS in September, had surgery in November and had radiation in the prone position for 5 days from 1/6/25 through 1/10/25. It was no big deal. The procedure took about 15-20 minutes and most of that time was spent getting into the proper position. There was zero pain and after 5 days the only issue was very, very mild tenderness of the breast. I wouldn't even describe it as pain. I used Aquaphor on the breast and had no redness, no discoloration of the skin, no dryness of the skin....NOTHING. The staff at the Charlton Building at Mayo (Rochester) was very kind and professional. Good luck and I hope your experience is as good as mine was.

I see her again on the 28th…..they were ruling out a suspicious node and they did, so am sure it’s right around the corner….
