Do opioids help with your chronic pain? - Successfully?

I used Opioids Post Surgery after my surgeries failed - successfully for 3 months. CRPS had set in both feet. Immediately after prescribing my third prescription for Opioids, my Surgeon pronounced me cured and discontinued any further care. December of 2016 was the last time I received a narcotic for my Pain. Just when I needed them the Most, I was Banned from any further Successful Pain Medication as Every New Pain Clinic told me that Opioids do Not Work for CRPS.
At a time when they are needed the most I have been Red Flagged as a Criminal Medicine Seeker and heard every excuse that Opioids do Not Work,and, are Not acceptable for long term use of over 3-6 months. Not even a Trial. I am unable to use NSAIDS. Gabapentin and Lyrica do not work and had too many side effects,
My research showed that Opioids should be used immediately if Nothing Else Works as TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE in treating CRPS. DO Opioids work on Your Pain? Do No Harm _ Do Nothing...

Tramadol works for my painful feet.
I also take Ibuprofen with it.
Don’t know what I’d do without it, and I’m only allowed to take Tramadol 50 mg twice a day.
I have pain in the evening and at bedtime,so that’s when I take it.

Did you know Tramadol is a controlled substance so many doctors will not subscribe. In the drug class Opioid. I’m glad it works for you. Just wish more doctors would allow patients to take it.

My back surgery was on October 23, 2023. I think the gabipentin is the next to go. In the past 5 years I have gone from 3 meds for blood pressure and depression to 11. You treat the pain and then the side effects of the pain meds! Honestly I need to remain strong through this! Chronic pain is a nightmare!!

I’m so sorry. I don’t understand why your doctor is treating pain with Gabapentin. Nerve pain? Seizures. Be careful as it can cause memory problems over time. So many doctors using this for chronic pain. Just because they won’t give a person pain meds. I hope it works well for you.

When Pain Management Specialists Say No, when Doctors say No, when you travel hundreds of miles for no help, when you pays hundreds of dollars in co-payments as you walk out the door - anger and frustration builds and gives you pain gains and flare ups. CRPS GIVES you Anxiety, DEPRESSION and PTSD, while each one Escalates Pain in a Comorbidity Loop. Not to mention Insomnia which No Physician or Psychiatrist will treat because the PAIN is causing the Insomnia. This leads to more PAIN>SO many different Meds tried - So many detrimental Side Effects just making my life worse. From Day 1 never had an Opioid trialed by these many Medical Experts who know NOTHING about CRPS Type 2. So no I am in END STAGE 4 CRPS after 8 years. I am very pleased to hear that you are experiencing some relief and I understand that you have gone through a lot in you quest for Pain Relief. Good Luck in the future but please understand that many Pain Patients are treated like crazy criminals, including me. We are just trying to experience some Quality Of Life and rejoin the Human Race. Pain HURTS, do not give up hope that scientist will find an answer to give Pain Patients a medication that works without side effects and addiction. Pain Patients are NOT RESPONSIBLE for the War on Opioids.We are suffering from Friendly fire...Here is a photo of my last fall just a month ago which also produced my twelfth concussion. An athlete until 58, I am a Pain Warrior with lots of pain and Doctor experience. Thank you to all the Real Physicians, Psychiatrists and Psychologists, friends and family who have helped me throughout my life and career. Thank you for posting Craig. I’m sorry for the way you have been treated. I agree with what you have to say bits awful how pain patients are treated.
It’s just inhumane as you very well know. And, should not be!

True, but my doctor explained that there are state requirements for dispensing the narcotics.

I recently had a friend tell me that her mom and aunt were both taking gabipentin for nerve pain and developed early dementia. I’m going to speak with my doctor about weaning off of it. For me when I’m taking so many medications it’s hard to tell where side effects are coming from, and what is working and what isn’t. The weight gain , shortness of breath, and a brand new heart murmur made me decide a more health conscious route. I was in a viscous cycle! Wake up pain, take Vicodin, prednisone, gabipentin, methocarbamol, Diclofenac, and two Advil and in a half hour I could semi function. With swelling Lasix and potassium were added on top of my enalapril HCTZ, Lexapro, bursar, and folic acid.

My neurologist will not prescribe opioids for my 5 yr/5 month constant headache. She says they will cause rebound headaches. I think 5+ years is past "rebound"!!!

Same thing happened to my sister who had colon cancer.
What difference does it make if your life is hurting all the time.

opioids did not lesson my hip arthritis pain. my son told me to get off them. I was slurring my words, so I did. I have found some over the counter pain meds helpful. I don't like meds. wish I could find someone who would prescribe hormones like progesterone with estrogen low dose as I am over 65.
