New groundglass opacity found

Posted by smaj99 @smaj99, Oct 20, 2023

In my annual lung CT scan today, they found a new 11.9 x 26.1 x 15.2 mm region of ground glass opacity laterally in the right middle lobe which may be "postinflammatory", according to them.

What does the new finding indicate in terms of cause, characteristics, prognosis, and treatment? Is this potentially a serious condition? I'm a 70 year old diabetic who takes insulin. They have asked me to repeat the test in 6 months.
Thank you.

I'm new here! I was wondering if anyone else here has had lung cancer and go for your 6 month scan and they find "Groundglass" on scan. (Today) Me and my husband had to read this news on "MyChart" and of course won't hear from doctor until hopefully tomorrow.

Welcome to Mayo Connect. We are a support group of patients and caregivers who share our journeys and try to help along the way.

Speaking as a proactive patient and caregiver, when are concerned about MyChart results, please contact the doctor's staff directly for answers if they don't message or call you within 24 hours.

Also, if you prefer not to get such reports on your chart, you can ask to stop them and get all results via a phone call. But then it may be several days of not knowing whether all is OK, because "normal" results fall to the bottom of the call-back pile.

Did you get a call today?

My first GGO in my LLL grew for 4 years before it developed a semisolid component that was surgically removed in April 2024 . The pathology report was stage 1a lung cancer. My Functional MD ordered a circulating tumor cell test (CTC) through RGCC and the test showed I still had circulating cancer cells in my blood after surgery My 6 month CT showed a new GGO in my RML.

I am aggressively trying supplements , keto diet, organic foods to fight cancer that are recommended in the book "Eat To Beat Disease".

I am scheduled for a repeat CT scan in March and I am also repeating Onconomics Plus . The Onconomics Plus report displays : cancer cell count in your blood, biomarkers, and which Natural Products, Chemo, or Radiation will target your specific cancer cells.

This test is offered by RGCC. The RGCC lab is in Europe and is fully certified. It is expensive, around $2500 dollars.

Traditional Oncology does not recognize this test and only recommends surveillance for stage 1a lung cancer that has been surgically removed.

You do well to read the results before you talk to Doctor. Then you can prepare questions for what is unclear for you. As time passes you will come to understand more the terminology.
It is important to follow reports and Notes of the Doctors on MyChart. Many times, there are errors in reporting, and one should correct them. One never knows when someone will make a judgement call based on that info.
I just was at Emergency Dept locally and they put out Notes that had false statements and errors. They said they had checked my heart, lungs abdominal etc., and all was normal...but no one did that! It said they checked my right and left legs for edema, and I was wearing boots! Did someone have x-ray vision? Apart from human mistakes, I think there is a lot of computer-generated type things and it will take time until a program and presentation of info is worked out so that it is concise and describes the patient. They need you to identify errors.
