Nausea taking 2.4 mg of Wegovy (semaglutide). No issues before

Posted by srwolfe @srwolfe, Sep 23, 2024

I have lost 47 lbs since starting wegovy. Started with the lowest dose of 0.25 and have gone up each month. I am now at the highest dose of 2.4 mg. Had a little nausea first week but have tolerated the medication real well. Unfortunately that’s not the case with the 2.4 mg dose. Nausea is real bad for days. The constipation is a big issue for first time since starting wegovy. Any ideas please let me know

I've been on the 1.7 for 3 months. I ALWAYS vomit & stay in bed the day after the shot. Dr appointment tomorrow & will discuss with him. I also stay Extremely Tired ALL THE TIME. I'm considering going off Wegovy. I've lost 32 lbs since July.

How did the doctor's appointment go? Did he suggest any changes?

I have my 2.4 in refrigerator trying to decide if going to take for this level.

All the previous levels I had not nausea, some feeling of digestive system slowing down and some changes to bowel movements.

However I lost no weight at all. My breakfastt and lunch appetite was the same with small reduction in dinner. Wanting to snack still very high.

My insurance will not cover WEGVOY in 2025 so my reluctance to even take the 2.4. Trying to get on anohter type but same issue with insurance. I think Medicare should cover weight loss drugs under medical part B.

Your post makes me even more reluctant to start the 2.4. I just did not want to start something knowing my insurance would not pay for it. I was really hoping I would get the results others got. My PCP said I am probably one of those who's WEGOVY's formula will not have much affect on me.

Sorry to hear wegovy did not help you. I’m still using 2.4 wegovy but I have stopped losing weight. Now I will need to really use dieting. Still get nausea if I eat fatty foods. Especially on injections day.

Glad we have MCC and can share experiences.

I read your body now has stopped reacting to WEGOVY like mine did from start. Sorry to hear that for you though.

My doctor wants to use Zepbound. He says that is contains different and more stimulants that reduce appetite and less influence on slowing digestion and full feeling. Problem is my BCBS FEP does not now want to cover WEGOVY or Zepound.

Did you ever try Nutrisystem in past? I have done it 3 times and loss quite a bit of weight each time. But it gets boring and I come off and something will happen, get sick, injured, family problem, and then the weight goes back on.

I am 77 soon to be 78 and think my bodies metabolism has just slowed so much does not take much food to fuel in anymore. I do water aerobics 5 days a week and try to swim a mile once a week, and bike once a week. So it is not calorie burn for me. Although my Mayo PCP now tells me my body has got used to my exercise routine and thus will burn less calories than it did before.

Just seems I get the door slammed in my face everywhere I turn.
Good luck with success on dieting.

Yes I have used nutrisystem and it works. Just like you it gets old real fast. I’m researching the diet programs to see what I can afford

Can you post what you find out?

I tired South Beach Diet some time back and it worked also. So I recently went to consider doing that again but they don't offer it anymore. I found out if I stay to long on Nutrisystem I will start cheating to get something different.

I looked at Jenny Craig but found it very expensive.

Started Wegovy 2 Saturdays ago. I had no side effects until today. My own fault. They had a celebration for me today and I ate a cupcake. Yeah. Don't do that, I was nauseated from the sugar. So no more sugar for me. Lesson learned. Other than that mishap it does exactly what it is suppose to do.

Did your doctors make you start a lowest dose then increase each month?

I had no issues with eating, and no nausea. The only affect on me was slight decrease in appetite at dinner. But nothing on snacking and nothing from sugar.

I was at the 2.4 when I decided to stop. It just was not working. I did not take the 2.4 as my insurance would no longer cover. So did not even try.

I am glad WEGOVY works for others. I wanted to try ZEPBOUND as using more inhibitors to brain on appetite versus full feeling when eathing. But again insurance said no.

Hopefully with appeals I can get on ZEPBOUND but until then I am eating less carbohydrates and more protein and no snacking after dinner. Lost a wopping 1.5 lbs last week but was better than nothing when on WEGOVY.

@katejr, tough lesson, but likely one that won't be repeated. How are you doing now with a few more weeks under your belt?

I lost 45 pounds over 37 weeks in 2024 on Wegovy (no side effects). Even with that loss, I still need to lose about another 90 pounds but it was a good start. In 2025, my insurance denied my prior authorization & I'm now appealing. My last dose (2.4) was 1/19/25. Since then, I've gained 15 pounds in 5 weeks. When (if) my insurance finally accepts my appeal, can I continue, after all this time without, my 2.4 doseage or start over with lower doses?
