Caregiver access to husband's Mayo account?
My husband is a patient at Mayo. I handle talking to the business office, etc. but, every time I call, I have to bring the phone to him to get permission to speak on his behalf. They've told me to request Caregiver Access in the portal.
I see in his account where we can request access to someone else's account. I need my own account to request access to his account, but I cannot create my own account because I don't have a Mayo Clinic Patient Number, which is required for creating an account. I am not a Mayo patient.
Does anyone know how to get past this block? The business office says they can't help with it.

I suggest contacting Mayo Clinic Customer Assistance at 877-858-0398 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday to see if they can answer your question.
If they are not able to answer you question, you might try Mayo Clinic's free Concierge services.

Thank you! I will try that tomorrow and update if it works.
There are a few steps you'll have to do, to get Caregiver Access to a patients.
1. The staff that help with the portal can be reached at 877-858-0398. You can tell them you are caregiver for a patient and would like to setup Caregiver Access on the portal.
2. You will also have to have paperwork filled out stating the patient gives you permission to talk with the care teams on their behalf.
Once that paper work is filed you can set up as a Caregiver, which would allow you to their portal information and any time you call, the team can see you are allowed the information. We can help at Concierge Services set up your portal and get the caregiver access set up (507-538-8438). I have added the paperwork you would have to fill out, which can be emailed or faxed in (since those are the quickest). It sounds difficult writing it all out like this, but normally doesn't take too long to get everything set up and going for you.

I am following up and seeing if you were able to get caregiver access to your husband's Mayo portal?
Any suggestions for others with same question?
This is not complicated. Federal privacy law in play here. There are HIPA and other forms (available at Mayo business office) that need to be completed by both you and your husband with a witness…..Mayo social worker will work. Once completed, the permission will be in the global record at Mayo and you will be asked similar question when asking for information. Additional actions will be needed for on-line portal access. Again, your best source for accurate information is direct with Mayo administration…..
