Insomnia and Cancer

Posted by lacey @lacey, Nov 1, 2016

HI, my name is Lacey, I have been in remission since Jan. 2015 and I feel great except for sleeping issues. I was on
zolpiderm for at least a year and the insurance co. just denied the prescription any longer. Instead , they prescribed
Trazodone which does nothing . I haven't slept in 48 hours and I feel that no sleep is going to cause worse problems
The zolpiderm let me sleep 8-9 hours a night. Do you have any help for this problem? Thanks, Lacey

@dianepenning

I don't read or watch TV in bed, I have blackout curtains and even cover my clock radio to block the light, I turn the thermostat to 66 degrees, don't use electronics and don't drink. I have also experimented with different bedtime routines, but nothing has helped. Sleep medications just make me feel hungover the next day, no matter what the med or dosage they have tried over the years. AND I have several female coworkers (ages 50-60) that also have sleep difficulty and have been unable to resolve their issues through doctor visits, medications, sleep studies, etc. So, I guess we'll just keep looking for answers and hope for sleep.

@dianepenning- Hello. I'm wondering how you are doing. Have you had any success in sleeping?

No change and sometimes worse, rather than better. Not many efforts seem to help; I use my lunch break to close my eyes, so I can get through the day! Thanks for asking...

@dianepenning- I'm sorry to hear that you are still not sleeping. Have you looked at this group? Perhaps there are tips that youhaven't thought of?

HI I'm Nancy /shortshot.... I have mesothelioma in my left lung, small cell cancer in my right lung. In the past 12 days I have to go to the hospital every day fro seven days for a antibiotic in my port. I have a urinary infection that is "drug resistant" so the hospital visits. I live 25 miles from the hospital so back and forth for seven days is really not fun.
Plus.. I had to have one liter of fluid removed from my left lung. Next they put me to sleep and went into my right lung and looked to see why it is bleeding. Doc marked three places for the next doc to Radiate starting on the 16th. Am I Depressed???? You Bet. I went to my doc and he gave me some pills that are helping. Next is my 87th birthday next week on the 19th. Also maybe my book that I wrote will be published.lot s of things going on, but no sleep and depression, some tears and some nothing time still gives me too much time to do nothing. Going to try to take a nap today... Nancy

I am sorry to hear that you are still struggling with that UTI, @shortshot80, that must be discouraging. I so appreciate the way you articulate your feelings. Looking forward to hearing that your book has been published.

Congratulations on your upcoming 87th birthday! Do you have any plans for a celebration?
