Has anyone been using Tymlos?

Has anyone been using Tymlos? I received devastating news that my bone density score is 4.6, much worse than my age of 72. Recommendation is Tymlos.

Mine is also 4.6, I’m 68. I’ve been on Tymlos for a little over a month. I don’t know exactly if it’s working, but my crumbling fingernails are growing nice and strong and that’s encouraging!

That’s a good sign. I am right behind you. About to start tymlos this week. Very nervous about it. Might have a friend come by for my first dose since because I have such low blood pressure.
Fingers crossed and wish me luck.

@candy209 I also have low blood pressure. I bought a cuff when I started Tymlos. I drank water and ate salty things. Over time I relaxed about this! I am so glad you are starting!!

Yes I am overdo to start it for sure. I am frightened about it but will start with two clicks for a few days.
I think I have been so sick with other things for over a year now I just don’t want something else making me feel bad. I know I have to do it to help my bones.
Thank you for all your support it gives me strength.

Good evening. Did you think I was never coming back? Nope...a little more snow than anticipated and an 81st birthday. How are you doing? I couldn't find a response about your concerns as you begin Tymlos. From my standpoint, there really was nothing to wonder about.
However, I was given only one choice after completing two years of Tymlos and that was Prolia. It did not work well and led to some pain and discomfort. I also did not feel comfortable taking something for virtually the rest of my life.

It turned out well when I requested a consult at Mayo with an endocrinologist and received a prescription for a medication that would not be a twice-a-year injection. That was just too much medication for my body to handle. The half-life was way too long. The substitute is a weekly pill that I take every Monday before getting started in my week.

Keep learning Kathleen. Knowledge is power.
May you be content and have peace.
Chris

I am 73 and after a recent acute compression fracture in T9 I had a Dexa scan, which showed -4.1 in spine. I knew I had osteoporosis because I was diagnosed 3 years ago, but I thought with exercise and a heathy diet and supplements, I would be fine. Well I wasn't. This is the 2nd fracture but this one really knocked me for a loop. Went to endocrinologist and he suggested Evenity. He wanted me to take Tymlos, but I had radiation on my nose and cheek for skin cancer, so he said that puts me at risk for this drug. The problem with Evenity is that I have a history of incredibly bad luck with dental issues since I was young. Many root canals that turned into extractions, Gum problems, etc, etc. I have one molar that has been abscessed twice over this past year. The dentist put me on antibiotics both times and swelling went down but the tooth has already had a root canal and has a fracture in it so he feels it may have to come out in the future. I read a horrifying report last night on Science Direct about an 80 year old woman on Evenity who developed necrosis of the jaw and lost her whole jaw bone. The pictures and descriptions of what she went through were horrifying. So I don't want to take Evenity but am frightened about the radiation warning on Tymlos. Now I am considering getting one of those vibration plates to see if that will help! Doctor wants my decision next week, but I feel between a rock and a hard place. I also have low blood pressure and am concerned about that as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'm 71, and started Tymlos (full dose of 80) 4 days ago at the urging of my endocrinologist. So far no side effects, and the self injection isn't bad. I made a diagram that represents my abdomen that looks like 2 curved parallel lines, and I mark the spot where I injected, so I don't inject in the same spot.

I administer it in the evening when I'm sitting in case I feel dizzy. But so far so good!

Good to hear. I may have Osseonectosis and need to come off my Prolia and believe I can take this. I’m a bit better nervous. If there’s a side effect it has my name on it. .

@laujodrik if you react to a full dose, many of us go down to 1/4 or 1/2 dose and then move up as we tolerate it. I never took a full dose (did 7/8) and had dramatic gains.

I played around with timing and ended up doing mornings. I had a blood pressure cuff and if bp was low I hyrsated and ate salty things. I also found that I felt better getting up and being active vs resting afterward. Maybe getting up raised my bp-? We are all different but often can make it work!
