Spotting Following Cortisone Injection
Anyone else experienced spotting following a cortisone injection? This is my second experience. Both times it started about 10 days after the injection. Just wondering how long it usually lasts. The first time was a number of years ago and I thought it only lasted a few hours. I'm now on Day 2. I'm 61 years old and went through menopause when I was 52.

Thanks for getting back to me poppy , Iam going to try and go with out the injections for awhile but i am 77 and i have a hard time walking with out them so we will see how long I can do it .I also was having a procedure from the physio called IMS (inter muscular stimulation ) its a big thing here in canada 🍁 . It’s a bit like acupuncture. They also call it needling .Its suppose to grab the nerve that is causing you trouble and relax it ..
it works to a fashion when your in agony but its very expensive so not too keen on that .
Thanks again for your help cheers from canada 🇨🇦
I had my ultrasound yesterday and the lining was “thickened to 8mm making it suspicious for hyperplasia or possible neoplasia”. I’m still waiting for the doctor to call and discuss so idk what his take will be on it. At my first appt he felt very confident the steroid was the issue and reading up I assume it can cause the thickening, but I don’t know what he will suggest at this point. I’m assuming a biopsy or hysterscopy but I have so many questions. If we assume he’s right - and these would just comfirm a non cancerous cause - my heart problem isn’t solved because I know I need the hrt to not go crazy, but I cannot avoid the steroid when I have the oral lichen planus flairs and that’s a problem. Of course that’s only if it’s that and not something more serious. I’m just sitting waiting for my phone to ring to tell me what is my next “Hell”.
I sure hope you are able to find answers too!!
I also had an episode of postmenopausal bleeding eleven days after kenalog injections in shoulder. I am a breast cancer survivor and recently off of aromatase inhibitors .have had a clean pap, no HPV , a vaginal
Ultrasound and a hysteroscopy. So far everything checks out clear and no one ( except this group and chatgbt!) seems to think the bleeding is attributable to the kenalog. Perhaps a study could be done so that the practitioners could warn the patients of the possibility and avoid some of the worry and fear , although of course other causes should certainly be ruled out .
I agree ! Non of my dr are aware of this happening after a steroid shot and it would be nice if we were better informed .
It would be nice to know if there is another form of injections that wouldnt involve steroids that contain hormones ? There is another method but i don't know enough about it ..
I think it is the sterriod shot. Look and see what kind they used. There are different ones. My orthopedic used a sterriod shot in my hip and I didn't know what kind until i got my medical records. 10 days after my shot in my hip i had a menstraul cycle for three days. I went through menopause at 32 and was done by 33 so over 20 years i haven't had a period and because of that shot i did. I also ended up with 3 blood clots in my left leg. So yes it can be the shot. the orthopedic used Kenalog 40 which the company that makes it sent out a warning about to all doctors. When you have a gut feelinga about not getting a shot go with your gut. I hope this helps
Hi ,thanks for this information , my dr used a steroid called Triamcinolone. I think they all do the same thing but it would be interesting to find out if there is a steroid that doesn't have this effect on woman . I also have major cramps in my legs which it does have a warning on the sheet I get after my appt . Mine were so bad i went to urgent care and they told me to take robaxacet for my back pain and leg cramps as it has a muscle relaxer in it . So I take one in the daytime and one at night .so far it is helping . I was getting shots every four months and every time I had a period for at least a week .. I am going to try and see how long I can go without getting another one . I was also getting a treatment called IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation) which is like acupuncture but it’s very expensive in canada 🇨🇦 .
I appreciate all the information this blog gives everyone .
