Waldenstrom's: Should I take the new medication (rituximab)?
Diagnosed 6 months ago after losing 25 lbs. down to 100 at 5’6”. IGN almost 2000. Extreme fatigue. Went in prednisone and Imbruvica. I’m went down to 569 but going up fast again. Doc wants to start Rituxan infusions. Thoughts?

I guess only time will tell how you’ll react to more treatments. You may find your symtoms settle down. Rituximab is a strong anti-inflammatory drug and it can help to maintain long term disease control. In my case, with 4 treatments I really didn’t have any side effects except to take care of the symptoms for the inflammation on my spinal cord at the time. It worked and there’s been no relapse after 5 years.
How were your lab results?
IGMs were down to 1100 . Absolute monocytes up to 1460. Slight anemia and low platelets. All phos and mpv low…. Potassium low. Pretty much all I remember.
Just received second rituxin infusion for Waldenstroms and non hodgkins.Side effects much worse than first. Been running fever last night. Can’t sleep. Pretty lethargic this morning.5 more to go is this normal after second round? Should I let fever run course of takectylenol. On so many meds so a little Leary about taking more. They gave me about an hour of pre meds before infusion. Thanks in advance.
@zeedee1. I’m so sorry to hear you’re having another reaction to the Rituxin. Fever is listed as a common side effect of Rituxin after an infusion. But if it lingers you should call your doctor’s office and let them know. Usually Tylenol is ok to take but it’s better to talk to a NP first before going ahead with that. Hopefully you perk up soon! How high was your temperature?
It was 201 but better today… just tired and achy but amazingly no hot cold sweats last night!
Hopefully you meant your temp was 102, cuz…whoo Ms Zee you’re burnin’ up! 😂
Glad to hear you didn’t have any night sweats! Fingers crossed that, other than the intitial uncomfortable side effects you’re having, the infusions do the job.
I did… 102… chemo fingers😂
The infusions helped me greatly. I hope yours will at least get you to a plateau. Hope the infusions work well for you with minimal side effects.
Hi @champ9810 Thanks for sharing your positive experience with the Rituxin infusions for WM. I’m glad it worked so well for you! I had 4 infusions myself for another medical condition and they were a life saver for me!
I know @zeedee1, who is just beginning her treatments for WM with Rituxin, will be happy to hear about your success and give her some much needed moral support! Did you have any side effects with the infusions such as fever the first day?
You guys are such a source of comfort.,Thanks for being a click away
