Is a second opinion needed?

Posted by jayligon @jayligon, Jan 6 5:20pm

My wife was recently diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas. She had expected a surgery date today, but the surgeon told her that her liver function made surgery out of the question. Should we get a second opinion? Her only recourse will be a brutal course of chemotherapy.

OK. I can't find anything that says that he is the best pancreas doctor in the United States. I just wondered where you found that ranking. I am curious to see if there are any listed in my area.

I hope that you find what you’re looking for of course saying that he’s the best is an opinion, but it is shared within the Pancreatic Cancer community. I would suggest if you’re serious that you get a hold of the intake people there and get a virtual assessment that you might agree

I have pancreatic cancer. I have been getting treatment for over 2.5 years at Mayo. I thought you knew something that I didn't. I was unaware of a "Top Pancreas Doctor" list. I wanted to research it. I learn so much from others on here. I just wanted to further educate myself on the disease, the treatment, and those that treat it. Thanks.

If you want it further educate yourself get on the Seena Magowitz SOS call Monday the 13th. You didn’t say what Mayo you were being treated at, but there’s patients from all over the United States Canada and other countries that come on this call and you’d be able to get most of your questions answered from other patients and medical Personnel

In my opinion, a second opinion is warranted in almost every situation of this type. Especially if that initial opinion is done at regional health care system.
And the best places to go are the Centers of Excellence for treating pancreatic cancer; places like the Mayo Clinic or Sloan Kettering or others.

I trust my care team at Mayo and the resources that they provide. They answer all of my questions. I think that they are the best at treating pancreatic cancer in the United States.
