What alternatives are there for carbidopa/levodopa?

Posted by anro @anro, Dec 4, 2024

1500 c/l along with azilect, pramipexole, and amantadine daily and often unable to move legs/walk after dosing. Anyone have same problem and found relief from different dosing or meds?

Hi, @anro - the issue you are experiencing with taking carbidopa/levodopa rasagiline (Azilect), pramipexole and amantadine daily and then being unable to move your legs or walk sounds difficult. I'm tagging a few members who have mentioned carbidopa/levidopa and also may have experience (or experience with a loved one) with the other medications and possible side effects, including @hopeful33250 @missbutterfly2be @eliz722 @jtes. What has your doctor said about your being unable to walk after dosing?

Hello @anro

I'm sure you must be concerned about your movement problems after medications. I have only taken the carbidopa/levodopa and amantadine, and I have never had the type of problems you have experienced.

How long has this been a problem? It is important that you talk with your doctor about this. Will you post again and let me know what your doctor suggests for dealing with this?

I have taken carbidopa levodopa for about 9 years and this year my legs became painful and I have to walk with a walker. It's worse after I take the carbidopa levodopa. I want wondering if my meds are causing the problem.

So sorry you are having this problem. I’m newly diagnosed and just starting C/L so can’t answer your question but I’m wondering how long after dosing the problem occurs and how long until you’re able to walk again.

My spouse took amatadine. He called me and said I need you to come get me . First dose and he was showing signs of a low blood sugar. Sweating profusely and weak. He has never had that drug again. He falls asleep with a Tylenol . He has really been so healthy most of his life. He told me that he was thankful for me and appreciated my intervention. Please be careful with the drugs you take. Make sure you are feeling and doing well before you try to do anything different from your routine. Hugs !

I have Parkinsons' and I take carbidopa levodopa. I have lots of trouble walking and my balance is bad. My neurologist says he has never heard of that and said I have arthritis so he sent me for some PT which only makes walking worse because of the pain in my legs. HE prescribed amantadine but it caused suicidal thoughts. I walk better cutting the meds down but my tremors are worse. It's a vicious circle.

for me the walking problems occur within an hour after dosing and by the time I can walk better but then it is time for another dose and it is a vicious cycle.

I HAVE TALKED TO TWO NEUROLOGISTS AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THESE SIDE EFFECTS WITH CL. THEY IGNORE THE SUBJECT WHENEVER I BRING IT UP.

@missbutterfly2be

Have you checked with your PCP or an internist to see if something else is causing the leg pain?
