21 years ago I quit getting sleepy at bedtime…I dread nighttime because of this.. I started taking OTC sleep aides.. have taken something every night for 21 years.. some night I sleep
fairly well on the sleep aides.. next night don’t t sleep a wink…

My suggestion would be to see a Sleep Specialist - they are usually neurologists. They work to determine what is the specific problem keeping you from falling asleep and can then address those. There are behavioral programs like cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia and medications that can help better than OTC drugs in some cases.
have the same problem not feeling tired at all when to sleep. The natural tiredness that used to have disappeared 2 years ago. Some nights do not fall asleep at all. Dr. gave seraquel for sleep, but that is making me sick. Very upset this insomnia not going away, my life as of now is ruined. I do not know if microvascular brain disease is the blame for this
Same problem for me. After 50+ years of poor sleep it just gets worse. Years ago I started drinking wine just to help me get sleepy, but that's not a good solution. My brain would be awake for hours while I was waiting to fall asleep. It was very frightening as I developed heart arrythmias that I knew wouldn't go away if I didn't get sleep. That became my number 1 health problem. So, after trials of different meds, I now take Dayvigo 5mg and Zopiclone 3.75mg together - every night. They really work well together, much better than just one of them. I start getting sleepy in about 20 minutes. I make sure I'm all ready to crawl into bed by then, and I fall asleep within minutes. To me it's a miracle! Of course, I take it every night - I want to sleep every night. I'm 70 and I've had problems falling asleep since I was a child. So for me this is my solution. I also take Magnesium Bisglycinate 200mg with the meds in the evening. No more twitchy legs or tossing and turning. I would suggest giving this combo a try, it's the first time in my life I've slept - and my heart problems are gone too!
Read my comment to the initial post, and try Dayvigo and Zopiclone together. Find the lowest dose that works for you. I've settled on 5mg and 3.75mg respectively. I will never go back to not sleeping!
I also have CKD…. Chronic Kidney Disease.. I wonder if the meds you said helped you effect my low kidney functions…that’s always an issue for me…

I feel the same as you… it’s messing my entire life up…
I have only one working kidney. These meds aren't a problem.
You know, one nice thing about the meds is that you can decide what time to take them. If I want to be in bed by 10pm I take it at 9:40. If I want to stay up till midnight I take them at 11:40. So you still have flexibility and control. Just an FYI if you haven't taken it before - 10mg causes a lot of dreaming especially in the later hours when I still want to "finish" sleeping. Cutting down to 5mg really helped reduce the dreams while still helping with sleep.
That does sound good.. I’ll need to try this…
Mother Nature knows best. The hemp plant solved my post menopausal 3-4 AM wakeups. SunMed Company has stores all over the US. Get your hands on their Delta 8 tincture. Take only .50 ml (less than 1/2 teaspoon) an hour before bedtime. Also no screen time several hrs before bedtime; the blue light really wreaks havoc. Cannabinoids are amazingly powerful and are the only OTC thing I have found to make a difference. BTW at this dosage as a petite female, I receive no buzz or high which are feelings I dislike.
