Has anyone else experienced high pulse rates after having Covid?

Posted by silkabasya1 @silkabasya1, Nov 30, 2024

I recently had Covid after testing negative I am experiencing high pulse rates. Because of this I am experiencing anxiety. It is really effecting my life at this point. I’m wondering how long this can last.

@mosey1

Did you take any medication while it was high?

mosey1, No, I did not. The cardiologist told me she could put me on something if the palpitations and high heart rate continued to be bothersome, but, I opted not to take anything since all of my tests came back normal and the fact that I am so sensitive to medication. I already battled palpitations due to thyroid disease.

It's a good idea to get your heart checked just in case COVID may have caused some issues then you will know what is going on.

It just took a while for the high heart rate to come down.....about 3 months.

I pray you get relief soon.

Update for me. Finally got some answers after two ER hospital visits. My sodium levels where at a dangerous levels. One more point down and I would have to been admitted for intervention . I naturally have lower levels. But not hardly eating for weeks and pushing fluids leached all my sodium out. I have been taking in salt like crazy and my high pulse rate and high blood pressure are adjusting👍. If you have these issues get your sodium levels checked.❤️❤️

My pulse rate was 117 for 4 days straight while positive with covid back in December 2020.

I have intermittent high pulse rates - increased 30+ points when I changed my position. My cardiologist determined it was POTS.
Yours could be anything, but Covid messes with every system.
I still can’t get any medication to work…
Good luck.

Yes, BP stayed high since first caught covid March 2020 and high HR soon followed….both still high 4 years 9 months later. In Jan.this year had a tilt table test that showed though I had high BP at rest, it plummeted to 61/40 on standing, and Falls Consultant insisted the high HR( 135+) was a response to low BP making sure that oxygenated blood got to the brain. She removed 1 of the 5 hypertensives I was on, the beta blocker bisoprolol, saying it was not allowing the HR to rise suffiently as body needed. Having said that I find my HR rises regularly throughout the day ( using an oximeter) doing small domestic jobs/ self care…worst is trying to cook at stove: standing up, use of arms above waist height and heat, sends HR to 145+ and makes me very breathless. Use dysautonomia tips like compression socks, water etc but nothing really alleviated it! Have a look at my favourite webpages ‘ stopfainting.com’ by Uk cardiologist, very up to date…might help.

I had COVID in March 2020 and had a high pulse rate whenever I walked more than 10 feet and my normally low blood pressure would roar up to 140/100. Four years later it is better but I still cannot walk more than 3/4 of a mile on a good day and around the block on a bad day. I have to constantly take in electrolytes to keep my sodium and potassium levels normal and take magnesium supplements to help as well. Four years later, I still get bouts of high BP and pulse with palpitations...just reminds me to slow down.

My normally lowish BP (110/60) is now 125/80 at rest and up to 145/85 when stressed or with slight physical exertion. My heartbeat becomes irregular at the slightest physical, emotional or mental stress. I'm using it like a barometer of sorts. Heartbeat irregular means to stop whatever I am doing.
My normally super active life is gone. Most of the day I have to sit and watch brainless TV or play easy games. If I could just sleep all day, I would. It is incredibly frustrating and boring. Some days I can relax and go with it, and some days I want to walk into the ocean and not come out. This is like a prison. But today I am rolling with it better. Praying for a breakthrough for all of us.

Since having Covid my heart rate periodically jumps 30 beats when i am doing something that should not cause such an increase, i.e. getting out of the shower and dressing , putting clothes in the washing machine.. It doesn’t hapoen all the time. I am being followed by a cardiologist, have had carotid ultasound- normal, holter monitor which showed a few PVCs , some premature atrial contractions. I also have mild leaky valves. Since my resting heart rate is fairly low and symptoms are not severe, my cardiologist doesn’t have me on medication. I see him every 6 months. I also developed sleep apnea after having Covid. I went from basically having no health problems to now seeing a cardiologist, pulmonologist (for mild obstruction) and a sleep specialist.

Hi @walk4life. Your description sounds like so many of us and is me to tee with the covid created apnea also. I too do not do meds as my blood pressure and symptoms fluctuates so. Very helpful to hear another person whose doctor seems to be really understanding and hearing you as we all suffer so differently and our individual circumstances require different treatment methods! Wish this as well for everyone on this post covid journey🌈
