nepanthe, Weight Watchers is like any other weight loss program....you have to stick with it.
I find I do the best simply staying away from fast food restaurants, eating nothing after 6:00 p.m. with the exception of popcorn or an apple and limiting breads and sweets. All of these are hard, but, they work for me.
Also, drinking water, eating more protein as it is filling and moving as much as possible. Try not to skip breakfast....a high protein shake or oatmeal is filling. Eat healthy snacks such as apples or another fruit and also keep walnuts or almonds on hand.
Fad diets just simply do not work for me.
I did the high protein, extremely low carb diet a few years back and paid for the program. I lost the weight, BUT, as soon as I started eating carbs again, I started gaining it back. I also believe we need the complex carbs and just a few simple carbs to be healthy. I did not get enough of the good fats in that particular program and my body paid the price for it.
I think you need to find something that works for you.
Praying for you as I know how hard this is. Losing weight slowly is the best way and just simply portion control and eating healthy. Writing down what you eat (this helps me!) gives you greater self control I think.
I wish you the best. New Year's Blessings to you.....

nepanthe, You are so welcome! My go to salads are at Chick Filet....their Grilled Chicken Market Salad. Go light on the dressing. Also, Zaxby's has a wonderful grilled chicken salad. Again, go light on the dressing. I also make my own salads with spinach and Romaine. You can buy salad mix at the grocery store.
Keep boiled eggs on hand....high in protein. A piece of cheese for a snack. Also, Gala or Fiji Apples. I put a little almond butter on each piece which provides more protein and drizzle with honey. I try and not eat aftet 6 p.m. due to reflux, but, it also helps me lose weight. I do allow myself the Skinny Pop Popcorn or an apple if I am really hungry.
Try and get as many vegetables and fruit in as you can.
Fried foods and fast foods are not our friend.
The lower calorie yogurts are good for you. The greek yogurt has one out with a lot of protein in it.
Do not skip meals....you will eat more at the next meal.
Drink water all throughout the day. It is so good for us. I do allow myself some decaf unsweetened tea and I use raw Stevia in it.
Baked Russet Potatoes or baked sweet potatoes are wonderful.
Boarshead oven roasted deli turkey is delicious on a low calorie bread for lunch with an orange or apple.
My go too as mentioned above is the Skinny Pop Popcorn. I get the regular kind and melt a tiny bit of butter on pour on top.
Allow yourself a cheat once in while.
There are a lot of 100 calorie snacks in the grocery store. Celery sticks, carrot sticks, nut mix (I can't remember the company that puts these out in a little bag), a handful of peanuts (If you aren't allergic), walnuts or pecans.
Rotissiere Chicken from the grocery store is wonderful...remove the skin. You can eat this with a baked or sweet potato that I mentioned above.
Bananas are an excellent source of potassium. You can cut up a small banana and again, put almond butter on it and drizzle a little bit of honey on top. Delicious.
There are steamable vegetables in the frozen food section at the grocery store so you can get your vegetables in. Watch out for hidden calories in these and too much sodium.
Watch out for added extras such as too much creamer in coffee, too much cheese or bacon bits on a salad or too many croutons. Too many crackers on soup are not our friend. These add up.
Chinese places have egg drop soup which is good and put just a few won tons on top.
I did myself in for Thanksgiving & Christmas and its time to get back eating healthy. Eating healthy is a lifestyle and not a fad die
I hope some of these help you. I'm sure others on here have even better ideas that myself. This is a wonderful website.

Thanks for the suggestions! I would add no salt turkey breast - which I buy at Whole Foods - so no cooking and heart healthy. I just warm up in my little oven with a little bit of olive oil on top to keep from drying up
In Italy and Spain olive oil is used as a condiment just like in the US in restaurants there's salt, pepper and sometimes hot sauce. In Italy and Spain there's usually a small bottle of olive oil. That's an easy way to start. Put it on bread and anything else that might go good with it.
I started this diet about 3 weeks ago for a variety of health reasons and while I have not seen those results yet, I did lose 10 pounds already so theres that.
My appetite has also decreased but there are probably other reasons for that.
I wish you all great luck with this and great health.
Did it or has it helped with your inflammation? I don’t know if you will respond to this post, being your original post was 2023.
A doc wanted me to start a Mediterranean diet severely modified to supposedly anti-inflammatory in nature. When I asked my pain management doc about it, she said it would “in theory”.
The other doc wanted me to eat only veggies, fish & fruit.
No: Dairy No: Meats (white or red)
No: nuts or beans
I tried by her restrictions lifted (my reality):
To include: dairy; fat free, Greek yogurt (oikos), some cheese in salad, chicken breast…
The first month I had basically only salads including fruit. I did well in that way, but it was considered a fail because it was not following her diet plan.
So now, I’m seeing a nutritionist this week, God wiling.
Attention to: diabetes, liver, pain, inflammation.
So I want a custom diet (realistic) that I can follow week to week.
Easier prep, simple foods. I am starting to eat wraps. I know it has some cheese but if it’s all veggie with a little chicken, how could I go wrong? Lol
I’m in love with homemade tzatziki sauce. Its base is plain Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, My favorite.
@nemo1 Hope you can find a way of creating a way of eating that suits you, and you can still enjoy your food.
I’ve had a look on the internet and there is so much conflicting information about what is a Mediterranean diet! Some say absolutely no alcohol, while others allow red wine in moderation. Some ban cheese, while others allow only certain types but in low fat form.
Over time and with the help of a registered dietician I have worked out a way of eating that works for me. For example, I don’t like beans so they are not going to be a big part of my diet. I love quinoa though and it’s a staple.
My main priority is to eat as fresh as possible and cut out chemicals as much as possible including preservatives.
The other is not to ban any food but eat some only in moderation and others rarely.
I love good chocolate and allow myself a few ginger cubes coated with dark chocolate occasionally. I also love a good T bone steak and will allow myself one every 6 months or so with horseradish and plain mushrooms.
The science keeps changing too. Look at eggs and potatoes. Once they were “bad”. Now they’re a valuable part of an eating plan.

I so appreciate your response, and I take your insight and experience to heart. I start the wise journey you referred to January 2, 2025.
Wishing you all the best in the New Year.
I used WW in the past. It totally works if I follow the program and stick with it. I think the support at the meetings is very valuable. Good luck!

HAHaHa. Sounds a little bit like mine. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
That is a new one. It was funny. I will have to remember that one. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
