Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid
Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

Yes, I have the same symptoms. The phlegm is very tenacious and copious in amount. It originates in my nasopharynx and oozes down my throat. I used to cough all day trying to clear my throat with little effect. I have been seeing an ENT for about 2 years. I do a nasal lavage with a steriod and NaCL twice a day, which helps a little. I also have sleep apnea, which started after covid. After starting CPAP, my symptoms improved a little. I had a pretty bad case of Covid in 2021 and 5 or 6 vaccines since then. My ENT said that Covid could have caused it, but there are other possibilities too.
I had a 48-Hour Bravo Esophageal pH Test ordered by my gastroenterologist which is an upper endoscopy where they place a camera on your esophagus that travels through your body over 48 hours and takes pictures to check for damage to the esophagus. Findings did not show anything substantial, no reflux issues at all or anything conclusive. So now I’ve seen a pulmonologist, ENT, allergist and gastroenterologist with no answers or relief from this continual thick phlegm that I cough up all day long. There has to be somebody who can help me and I’ve yet to find that doctor and I’m beyond frustrated. I don’t know where else to turn. This has been a 2 year battle now for me and it started right after recovering from Covid for the 2nd time. It’s truly exhausting.
I can relate. I am scheduled to return to my ENT in about a month. Third visit. I am not optimistic.
I had several visits with my ENT. He prescribed several meds (pills, sprays, etc) and not one thing made any difference. No relief at all. I was hoping the gastro doctor might find a reflux issue that she could treat but she found nothing at all. I’ve hit a dead end. Do I see another pulmonary doctor? A new ENT? I am going around in circles here.
I wish you a lot of luck at the ENT. Please let us know how it goes. I hope he can help you!!!
celia16, I went to ENT and GI. Now Lung doctor. They did CT scan o lung twice and did not see anything. But for last scan I went to Long Covid and they saw mucus in Lungs. Now they gave me Nebulizer and told me to start Pepcid even though I do not have acid reflex.
Another Pulmonary doctor and several scan of Lungs. In my case they saw mucus in Lungs on 3rd scan. They gave me Nebulizer and told me to start taking Pepcid even though GI said no major acid issue.
pacathy, TY for the info on app. I just downloaded it.
Long Covid clinic gave me this nebulizer followed by sodium chloride followed by Aerobika to loosen mucus from chest.
I appreciate all the comments. It is a dilemma as to what to do. I hope this issue can be resolved in 2025.
It seems the congestion starts in my nasal area. Some days it’s not as bad and my throat feels clear…voice sounds normal. So, I am capable of it being normal. And of course there’s the constant bitter taste. Started right after covid. Side issue I suppose, but that’s why I originally saw ENT. And, was diagnosed with Post covid.
