Anyone tried shock wave therapy for peripheral neuropathy nerve pain?

Posted by carolynmcn @carolynmcn, Dec 20, 2024

I’ve had peripheral neuropathy since 2020 after having a Covid vaccine. My pain worsens from supper time on. At bedtime, it is excruciating. I’ve tried all of the creams, even prescription creams. I’ve been on Gabapentin and Lyrica, with no change in my pain, so I am weaning off of these meds. I’ve heard horror stories about the med and withdrawal symptoms.
Has anyone here tired sh I wave therapy? My medical professional suggested it? Any advice? Thank you very much.

It was $200 a session and I did 5 sessions, not covered by Medicare. If it would help the leg pain from my stenosis, I would totally do it again. I went to a woman recommended by my sports medicine doc. There were others in my area but the doc said that this was the best place, and I guess best price

Did you have the shock wave therapy specifically for the leg pain ? I have excruciating pain in my legs. Nothing has worked to relieve it and I am not a surgical candidate because of osteoporosis. Waiting for a referral to acupuncturist.

Hi @carolynmcn ,

I have had both red light and Shockwave therapies. For both of these treatments the goal is to increase blood flow to the area and hopefully the nerve is escatitic about the blood flow and starts to heal. Sometimes it is immediate relief, sometimes not so much. I have written about both treatments before. My treatments cost about $50.00 when I signed up for 8.

The best diet and exercise for you ( to include most of the Happy Feet video) are needed to build a foundation for the treatments to work. I also do a 5 minute foot massage I found on YouTube. I can sleep after that.

Any chance you live in northern california? I’d do shockwave regularly for $50.

I did not have it specifically for the leg pain. I probably should, but I’m not sure if it would work for the nerve pain from a compressed nerve in the back. Maybe if it’s done on the area of the back where the nerver starts? My surgery was put off while I take bone builders because of the osteoporosis.

And acupuncture helped me for a few days, up to five days. Medicare again does not cover, I fill out a Medicare form to send in and get some reumbursement.

Could you please explain more about the Happy Feet video? I looked on YouTube and could only find a children’s video entitled Happy Feet.
I would love to read more about your previous writings regarding these treatment modalities. Where could I find them?
I eat a very healthy diet. No sugar, no caffeine, no processed foods. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

I just had my first session at a homeopathic clinic last week. They want me to try once a week for 16 weeks. Encouraged to try something new. Previously tried spinal decompression and red light therapy along with using a vibration plate and a “rebuilder” electric muscle stimulator which is supposed to help rebuild nerve functionality. Pins and needles have reduced but numbness remains. I shall keep trying and hoping

Happy Feet yoga with Sally McNally. There are some parts of this I just can

Thank you. I found this on YouTube and will start this practice today. I will try anything. Prefer not to take the gabapentin and lyrica, which I am being weaned off of now. It caused me to be unsteady on my feet and my vision was affected. Weaning off of gabapentin is really difficult. I am getting very depressed and anxious. My body hurts. It’s like I am feeling the withdrawal in my chest, upper back and neck.

Nor exactly sure what " shock treatment" means here?

I went for some treatments foe my feet a couple years ago. They attached various pads on my feet with wires going to a central box and computer. There were 24 treatments about 30 min max each. It was electrical and magnetic waves. My feet felt better after each. Over times things got better but not a complete cure for the pain.
