Husband recently diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma and had no symptoms

Posted by mscluppy @mscluppy, Dec 23, 2024

My husband was recently diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma. We were referred to Mayo and have our first appointment in a week. What I don't understand is why blood tests taken the end of Sept were all normal range. Lesion was found on the liver by accident otherwise no symptoms. They say it's about 8cm which is quite large. We don't know what to expect and it's scaring me. I'm assuming the size would mean it's more advanced. Can anyone share their experience if it's similar?

Same thing happened to my husband. He had a discomfort in his abdomen. Went to the doctor who ordered chest xray bloodwork and a ct scan. Bloodwork and chest X-ray all normal. Gets the ct scan and they find a lesion in his liver. He has no other symptoms and now we are seeing surgical and medical oncologist and have a PET scan scheduled for Monday. If he’s not a surgical candidate it’s just chemo. I’m devastated. How can this happen?

I just can’t believe it went from abdominal discomfort to this! Praying for all who are stricken with this horrible disease. His is fine otherwise but the mental and emotional strain is unbearable. He’s only 57. So much more to do in life yet.

My husbands PET scan is Tuesday. We have blood work and ct scan tomorrow. Hopefully we will know what the next steps are. I know what you mean about the mental and emotional strain. My husband is 66. Still too young to be going thru this. Keep me posted on your journey. Prayers coming your way.
