I was 3.5 years into burning trying many different medications. After obtaining a scope of my esophagus I have reflux and Barrett’s. I have to treat long term but 60 days of Prilosec 40 mg twice daily and sucralfate 10 ml before meals and at bedtime has pretty much eliminated the burning. When slight burning comes thru I chew 1 pepsid complete. Of course I have followed all recommendations for lifestyle changes, eating, drinking, etc. and raise head of your bed 6 to 8 inches and eat small meals and don’t eat late in day. Your doctor can try these medications on you before a scope. It takes patience and a good 30 days to start to see results. I drink lots of warm water to wash away acid. I also take 5 mg baclofen at night to help with reflux. Good luck. I tried allergy tested, replacing crowns, root canal and finally even pulling a tooth and stopping all medications to see if medications were making the burning worse. When I do get a little bit of burning during day, if I do get burning, I chew 1 pepsid complete. Of course no big meals, don’t eat late at night, no drinking, no smoking, no spicy foods,…read up on what to do to help reflux. My reflux was silent as I never knew I had reflux.
