Unable to acquire muscle after COVID+19

Posted by cannotgetstrong @cannotgetstrong, Dec 25, 2024

Two years after COVID rhabdomyolysis I am still unable to acquire any large degree of muscle mass. At 62 years old I went from 238 to 208 after a 5 day stay. I am now 219 lb but my pulling muscle groups burn with in 6-8 reps even with light weights. (Hamstrings/biceps/leg extensions) It is very frustrating because both my jobs require strength and endurance. And I will not except a remote control and a beer. I will try raising my test level and reduce my estrogen in hopes that it works.

I have post covid syndrome and share your concern. I’ve been working out and doing strength training for over a year with not much progress with muscle. Why do you feel it’s due to LC?

All the info on LC is not in yet and covid attacked my muscle, lungs and blood viscosity. The virus was diabolical in nature. I have always been able to acquire and keep muscle for the last 5 decades but COVID changed that. Scared lungs, GFR low for my kidneys and continues muscle atrophy. Please keep training and stay in touch with any progress.

I’ve had various issues too, but not sure if it’s due to LC. My smell/taste disorder did resolve for the most part. Still have constant bitter taste. Also, limb tingling. Have you had that?

Yes occasionally in my legs and also my finger tips. My tolerance for hot food has diminished. Mind you I was a Mixed Martial Arts/strength coach so these bizarre issues were complete mind screw. We all are blessed to be survivers

I was a gym rat. Prior to LC. I can’t imagine doing any weight training and when I try to lift heavy objects, my pem or whatever kicks in and I regret it. Often, wight training. Is contraindicated for LC, may you have. Something else. Good luck and don’t damage yourself.

It must be hard to be struggling with your condition after being so fit and strong and now that it affects your job/career.

I understand the mRNA shots and covid infection/spike protein affects and damages endothelial cells. This could be behind so many symptoms, including muscle mass and strength plus nervous system.

Here is some helpful information. Some is technical but you can glean a general understanding of the injury to endothelial cells caused by Covid.

To cannotgetstrong —

Thank you for posting 11 links for us to follow to valuable information!

I started with Link #1, an article on the Cleveland Clinic website about Endothelial Cells and how they get damaged. That first article had links to related ones on the Clinic website that were useful to me.

I look forward to following the other ten links you provided!
