Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.

I am glad that info was helpful to you, @parus. It sounds like you have found a way to "ease-into" the ACE Inhibitor, which is important! It sounds like you have had some difficult problems with meds in the past and I can understand your anxiety. I hope you continue to feel better.

I've been diagnosed with FM, CF, for 27 years and had to work until 2014. I coped with Methadone. It was the only pain killer that didnt affect my kidney I lost in 1999 because of a tumor that turned out benign. The surgeons thought my overuse of Ibuprofen might had caused it. That's when my nephrologist said NO MORE ANTI -INFLAMMATORY medicines except maybe an aspirin occasionally. That's when I had to find something else...methadone.

Then, this year the tables turned. My sister talked me into moving near her. My husband died in 2010. Then my only child died in 2013. That's the main reason for retirement. I couldn't cope with the job and the grief.

When I moved to the Galveston area, I started going to a new doctor. I was tested for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme Disease.
After 27 years, the lab report lit up like a neon sign. The numbers showed I have had these two diseases for way over 20 years. I remember when the aching and fever came. The fever left after 24-48 hrs, but everything else stayed. I thought it was a bad flu. I had never had the flu before. Now, since Sept. 2018 I have been on Doxycycline 2 x daily, am & pm. I'm still taking the methadone because not much has changed yet. Just got another month's worth of the Doxycycline yesterday. I hope it starts working soon.

But, to answer your question, finally. YES, depression is something I fought since 1991. Then when my son died in 2013 the depression became much worse. I almost gave up in Sept of this year. My sister found me after overdosing. I spent one night in the hospital. I am much better right now, but the grief will never go away. I miss my son, my best friend, so very much. I cant see anything taking that away..

You take care. Maybe talk to your doctor about those two diseases and some labs are equipped now to test for them. My lab was Lab Corp. Some labs are not equipped.

Hi all!
Just thought I'd catch you up on what has been going on in my bionic life (lol).
It is now about 8 weeks since my spinal surgery on L3/4. I thought by now I'd be dancing on the countertop. No such luck! I am no longer using a walking aid. Doctor's orders and my hubby is the walking police.
My legs are very weak so the distance I can walk is minimum. I don't sleep much. If I get up for any reason from 1am on, the pain kicks in and I don't go back to sleep. The pain is improving but in the morning it is HORRIBLE! I quit taking pain meds. I've gained a lot of weight and I worry about addiction.
I went to an orthopaedic surgeon for a consult on my knee. Something new to the mix. Not really new but hasn't been an issue for 2 years. Anyhow he can't do anything about it because I can't get steroids until my back is at least 6 months out and 100% healed.
So, I went to a pain doc for a consult. He said he could do an ablation, if I qualify. I told him about the steroids. He said it wouldn't be a problem. The ablation requires a test first to see if he could find the nerves that are causing the pain. I went for the test and had a great result.
I don't know why, but I did research and found out that the stuff he used for the test consisted of...you got it, steroids @
Off to a new doc my PCP suggested. He took an xray and saw a meniscus tear in the knee. I had one before and it was painful! Now we don't know if the pain is the tear, arthritis or whatever. I'm taking an MRI to see. Stuck right now to do anything.
That is my tale if me becoming the bionic woman.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

I don't know how they did your surgery. I could not walk at all. I thought I never would again. Doctor talked me into having concrete placed where I had crushed the Vertibra. Immediately, I was walking. Of course, yours was probably more extensive. I have no pain whatsoever. I fell a couple more times and worried I would fracture the concrete. Not so. My neck is hurting, however since I got my special bed which the head goes up and the foot goes up. I can adjust the pillows and bed to make sure my neck is properly in place. My lower back, I had shots. They did not work at first. But, now, all is well. I am so happy. I was treated at the University of Texas Medical Center. I am now living in Twin Falls Idaho. I have not seen any specialist yet. It is really hard to get an appointment. I am more concerned to see a Cartiologist. My palpatations have been horrible. I don't understand but I was told if I have them for a few minutes and they go away vs having them last all day and into the night determines their danger. The short ones are more dangerous. I guess

The NO ANTI INFLAMMATORY DRUGS came from my nephrologist after I lost one kidney. It didnt have anything to do with my chronic fatigue or FM. It only had to do with having only one good kidney left.

I agree on the ibuprofen and any other similar medications classified has NSAIDS... Aleve, Advil, Mobic, anything classified as an NSAID. My son only has one kidney and that is the most important thing they said we could do. Always ask your doctor if they are prescribing something that is anti-inflammatory and or pain related whether or not there are any NSAIDs in it. Wishing you the best
