Did anyone else decide to not have radiation?
I am 69 with hormone positive and her2-Stage 1 (14 mm) Grade 1.
Radiologist comfortable with me foregoing radiation treatment.
Anyone experience similar situation?

EUROPA 2 year trial results from subcohort discussed at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium reported better quality of life with radiation alone than with endocrine therapy alone for older patients. Over age 70, stage 1, luminal A, bc patients (not just ILC) and lumpectomy. “Final results from the EUROPA trial, including long term recurrence and survival data, will further clarify the roles of Radiotherapy and endocrine therapy in this population.”
I saw this reported in Medpagetoday.com, 12/13/24.
@judith40, treatment decisions are hard. What criteria did you use to choose whether to have radiation or not? What did you decide?
As I was sitting at my first appointment with the rad onc a nurse commented that the doctor was trying to confirm my onco score because it was not in the system.
Her nurse said the Rad Onc had gone through all my stats which are stage one grade one 14 mm ERPR positive HER2 negative and was attempting to confirm my onco score as it was not in the system.
But based on what she saw and my age at 68 she was going to offer a choice of opting out of radiation.
So the once score was confirmed at 4.
But when the radiologist walked in She confirmed that she was going to offer me the option to opt out, but she looked at me and she says I see how healthy you are and you could easily live another 10 years so I think it’s best that you take it.
After that appointment, we had two subsequent appts where I had told her I had not even consider opting out out of radiation until she mentioned that it was an option and so I did a lot of research and I thought OK yeah I guess it is an option.
So I am almost 6 months out so I think at six months is the latest radiation will be delivered.
I changed radiation oncologist as I was going to join the DEBORAH trial but finally did not qualify since I had no sentinel nodes removed as the place I was treated implemented a new program where women with my tumor characteristics that were clinically negative on ultrasound did not have sentinel nodes removed.
So my treatment was lumpectomy and now Letrozole for five years.
So of course, now I worry, immensely about the possibility of a reoccurrence.
I was 78 at the time of my diagnosis last year which was ILC with virtually the same characteristics as yours. I decided on proton radiation using Mepitel Film and to not use AI. The statistics show that around one third of women who start AI do not finish the 5 years and many others suffer from various side effects. The radiation was easy for me. If you still would be able to do the radiation, you might want to rethink. Good luck to you.
