I would like to hear about others experience with BiPAP machines

I have been reading about the bipap. I however , I have not heard from persons using the machine . I am on 24/7 oxygen . I sleep with a cannula and I find myself breathing thru my mouth at night . Thinking about trying it .
I would like some advice and/or tips from one that uses it . Thanks.

I have a bipap. I have oxygen connected to my bipap. I have a paralyzed rt diaphragm. Asthma/COPD. Restrictive airway disease. The bipap has 2 settings. One for breathing in and the other for breathing out. My numbers are 16/12. The 12 is for breathing out. I can’t breathe out easily. The first time I tried it my numbers were 21/18. My mask blew off my face. I have the nasal pillows. We had to adjust numbers so it would stay on. You have to have a sense of humor. It takes a while to adjust to it. When I first got it my breathing was so bad that using it was the only that I could breathe easily. Like any cpap or bipap, if you never had one, it can take up to 3 months to get used to it. The sounds etc. I found the full face mask was the most uncomfortable mask to wear. You might need a chin strap so you don’t breathe out of your mouth.

Thank you so much for taking the time Your information is very valuable to me . I am stage 4 Emphysema. I am having problems at night. I do breathing exercises during the day . I can’t control oxygen while sleeping . I slip into very shallow breathing or breath through my mouth .It causes morning headaches and sore muscles . I wish you all the best . Thank you for information . Blessed Be, Crystal

I have been using a BiPap for over 5 years using a full face mask. I also incorporate a chin strap; otherwise I sleep with an open mouth and when waking up, I can hardly talk due to dry mouth. The only issue I have is a red place on the bridge of my nose every morning. I have severe sleep apnea and don't use oxygen. Before the BiPap, I used a CPap for 7 years prior to the BiPap.

Hi, Thanks for answering . The dry mouth is a problem for me. I have the emphysema, so I thought the bipap could help me breathe also . I have been told that I have always had a problem keeping my mouth shut .! lol. The bipap sounds hard to get accustomed to. I just may have to try . Sleeping thru a whole night of controlled breathing sounds good . Be safe and Blessed Be, Crystal

I have had a bipap since 2018. I just recently added oxygen to it. I use a full mask because I am a mouth breather. I wear Dreamware by Resperonics. It wAs easy for me to to get used to it. It is the only time that I can breath easy. No more headaches in the morning. I do use Biotene mouth gel for dry mouth , it helps. I also use Burts Bees on my lips too. Sometimes I also use it during the day if I am really SOB. Love it.
