Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.

Amen, sister! The people need to unit over this one. MJ was misclassified as a Schedule 1 drug because someone could make a political career out of it.

Hi There, I think I've just met my sister from another mother. My life is almost identical to yours. I live in the middle of 70 acres of land so I rarely get to see people all week.. Even on weekends I see people but I can't really talk to them as they're just enjoying the property. Once a month or when I'm feeling up to it, I go out and talk to someone. Plus, I've had two spinal surgeries and a knee replacement. Turns out I'm allergic to the titanium implants. Now that pain has been heightened by the fibro. Sometimes I feel like I'm in hell on earth. I used to be able to get around better until the back op. It was from S1 to T12.
Most days I stay laying in bed for about a half hour, take my meds go lay down watch a couple of my favorite shows.. After that, I scream at myself to stop being such a baby and picture some of the patients that I've seen at MGH That really helps me to drag myself out of bed and take a nice hot bath. Going to get a nice soft massage is a relief. For however much time you can afford. I'd rather go to the spa than eat. Also, my husband bought me a massager with two big round devices on the end. I feel it works for a while and gets the blood moving.----Doctors say that better blood flow helps heal the body faster, it's worth a shot. Try to shop on line if you can. I buy myself a lot of beautiful clothes(in the size I'd like to be). I shop at expensive stores, sometime for hours.
In the end I have to go back and delete all of the items I've "purchased", but it was fun for a while. If you're not into clothes that much, just look at things you've always wanted to have. One more thing, I've noticed that there a lot of clinical trials out there. Just my sister sent me a medical magazine and it had several talks on Fibro. Keep Praying! Carol

@chari978 Not into clothes shopping nor shopping of any kind. Being an animal lover I enjoy viewing images and still like to learn. Can no longer be the outdoor person I have always been. When I go into the negative self talk about the problems that have changed my life it does not help one bit.
I have said this many times that fibro (any type of chronic pain) is not for wimps. I also like to look at all of the wonderful art supplies online. Thankfully I have paintbrushes and pencils to help pass the time even though I am not always up to be creative I can still plan in my mind what I would like to do.

Hi. I am so sorry you are suffering so much. I think that hydrocodone may be a good choice for some types of pain, but fibromyalgia responds very well to Elavil and Gabapentin. I took Elavil for years, and it also helped with my migraines, and gave me a much better night sleep. Good luck to you. Irene

@clownscrytoo Also have had severe reactions to medications. There are also many foods that cause fibro flares for me. One illness acts up and all of the rest kick in.

This fibro is very frustrating that's for sure. I overdid the housework yesterday and today nothing is working.Ordinarily what I take does keep me out of pain but when I overdid the cleaning of shopping then I suffer next day.If you know what helps you ,be persistent with your Dr.after all you know your own body.To Stabo

I have found CBD oil from BlueBird Botanicals that is not terribly expensive. I "think" that it helped my pain. However, isn't that what the placebo effect is all about anyway? If you believe it helps, it does? If I was living in a state where marijuana was legal, I would quit narcotics and use marijuana exclusively. I believe the marijuana would be better for me and I know (from experience) that certain marijuana helps pain tremendously better than narcotics. And I can work effectively without worry of becoming comfortably numb from the narcotics.

I don't believe smoking pot helps my pain. If anything, it makes me more aware of discomfort. But that is me, and everyone is different. I would Never try to drive after smoking, while I believe that my motor skills and reaction time are barely affected by pain meds. The rub-in CBD oils help, I think, but it is very short-term relief. Good morning @robbinr,
Just want to be informative here…..very few, if any, chronic pain Medical Marijuana users ‘smoke' pot. Different potencies of beneficial MM are available in edibles, vape oils, topicals, and other delivery systems that I may not have mentioned (old memory here). The staff at the dispensaries are very good at helping clients choose the right products and at the right strength. In states like MN patients must meet with a pharmaceutical counselor before beginning medical marijuana treatment of any kind. Their inventory doesn’t even include what are commonly called rolls or joints.
Hang in there….help is out there………
Happy Day,
Chris

"Yes it is frustrating. There is a book out I have not purchased. It is called, "You don't look sick" Also she takes spoons and let say one spoon is washing dishes, another, vacuuming, another Grocery... If someone wants to know how you feel with Fibro, this is a good way to do it. I have the same thing with RA. My son actually said to me,,,,You think everything is RA My Lord...I love my son but I could not believe he puts into words what a lot of people believe

They are starting me on Infusions now. I was taking my meds (6) tablets on Sunday. I cannot eat as I throw up after a couple of bites. I guess my RA dr is looking into the Gastrologist to get this issue cleared up. Because I get sick on the pills, my Dr is now putting me on Infusions. They take all day. Two a couple of days apart and then two weeks later Two more. Then none for 6 months. I am sure this is insurance also. I fear running out of insurance. I cannot believe how people make it while paying the high bills. My money will run out before I die. Then what?

Our society must become more compassionate and reasonable about illness and medicine. We don't WANT to be sick or spend all our money on treaments.
