Lichen Planus
Hi everyone. I am so glad to have found this site. Back in April I had a small cancerous lump removed from my right breast, followed by 3 weeks of radiation. Except for being tired, I was fine. Well, I went on a vacation with my daughter and her family, where there was air conditioning, followed a few weeks later going on a vacation with my son and his wife .... no air conditioning and very hot. During that time I noticed these small red bumps show up on my arms. I didn't think too much of it at the time. But, even after I got home, they continued to show up, some got really nasty looking. It went from my arms to my legs. I tried treating it with over the counter antibiotic, to no avail. I went to a Dermatologist who identified it as Lichen Planus. She originally put me on Doxycycline and a steroid ointment - the ointment just for 2 weeks. Now I am still taking the Doxycycline and I use an ointment 2x a day called Muciprin, 2x a day. As I read here on Mayo (which is my first go-to site) it sounds discouraging ... like it will never clear completely and can affect my nails, which it has begun to do slightly. Right now many of the big ones have cleared, leaving a purple circle, but from reading I know this is a condition which I will be living with permanently. It feels so good to share this as so many people look at my arms and ask "what in the world is that?" Thanks so much for listening and any advice you can give me would be wonderful.
