Diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica and possibly Hashimoto's
So I had been tentatively diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatic even tho my labs didn't jibe with it. Now I am having symptoms of hashimoto disease & waiting to be diagnosed with that. I'm wondering if anyone else has had these complicated symptoms & if they overlap each other & if one could cause the other? Any input is welcome

Did you undergo a prednisone therapy trial? If so, how did you respond? Have you been prescribed hydroxychloroquine?

3 ReactionsI think one of the reasons PMR is difficult to diagnose is that there are many conditions that share similar symptoms.

2 ReactionsNo, no updates yet. Still waiting on my labs to confirm hashimoto disease. Since I was treated with prednisone for pmr I haven't had any symptoms with that. Thank you

1 ReactionI got diagnosed with hashimoto disease. Started Armour thyroid medicine about a month ago. I really don't feel any different. I even feel like my symptoms of pmr are wanting to come back if that makes sense. Anyone else have this issue?
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's when I was in my early 50s. I also had Raynaud's along with the Hashimoto's. I was diagnosed with GCA and PMR 8 months ago, when I was 70 years old.
It took several years of trial and error to get on the right dose of thyroid meds. I've been taking a combination of Synthroid and generic Cytomel for the last 15 years or so, and that has worked well.

4 ReactionsI can only speak for myself, but I was diagnosed with both Hashimoto’s and Hypothyroidism. I had my doctor run a Thyroid panel that included testing T3-free, T4-free, TPO Antibodies (for Hashimoto’s) and TSH levels. My TPO Antibodies were almost at 600 and they’re suppose to be 0! High, to say the least. My other levels I mentioned above were also high, so I was put on 112 mcg of Synthroid and 5 mcg of Cytomel. I was experiencing a lot of bloating before meds and after being on them for a while, the bloating and body swelling were gone. I also read a good book on Hashimoto’s Disease and decided to try eliminating some foods that would cause this bloating. The three foods I gave up are gluten, dairy and soy products. A huge difference in my body and I feel so much better. I don’t have crushing headaches any longer and generally, feel better. I have had to continue adjusting my medications and am now only taking 75 mcg of Synthroid to control my Hypothyroidism. I also believe that eating the correct foods makes a huge difference as well. I wish you luck on your health journey!

3 ReactionsThank you, I felt better after I was treated for polymyalgia but then when bloodwork showed I had hashimoto disease I have been feeling pain will come back. But this has been since the Armour thyroid medicine. Hopefully I can find a good balance
