Robitussin DM has 2 meds in it - Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin. The Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant and the Guaifenesin is an expectorant. The Guaifenesin doesn't dry up mucus, it actually thins and loosens the mucus by moisturizing it. This makes it less bothersome to you and makes it easier to cough it out. If you don't need the cough suppressant or just want to avoid it you can get Guaifenesin alone in several forms like tablets, capsules, etc. It is MUCH cheaper that way compared to cough syrup.
@jfperrone- Good morning. There are several new inhalers with the term Elipta. I use Trelegy Ellipta (fluticasone, umeclidinium, and vilanterol), which is used to treat COPD. It has made a huge difference in my breathing.
