I know one symptom of Reflux is a dry chronic cough but I heard today a cough can also be a sign of Sleep Apnea! Has anyone else heard this?
Yes, i did have the test done first and it came out fine. Last week i had a repeat of the test plus a barium swallow test I see my gastro doctor next week and we will talk about have the reversal done. In the last two weeks i have ended up in the ER because i couldn't get food down and they did a dilation and i have had to throw up at least three times and wait for food to go down. It usually takes about 1/2 hour. This surgery did not work at all for me but i am very concerned what problems the reversal will bring.
This is scaring me because I will eventually have to have mine redone mine came loose in a Cervical neck Surgery. I'm back on Aciphex and Zantac at night. I do ok at times but my husband said I have the dry hacking cough I had for 18 yrs at nite and I notice it some during the day! I sure don't won't my next one too tight! Please let me know what happens! If this was my only problem it wouldn't be so bad. But I've learned Surgeries can help one thing but harm something else! I'm having a trail Stimulator put in next week to see if it will help my fecal Incontience. If I have a permanent one put in later then I can't have MRIs on my lower back. That's not good bc I have spinal stenosis that's causing me a lot of pain in my lower back. Since Late July I fractured my T12 and had surgery . It seems the pain shifted to my lower back now! Can't win for losing!
Hi @cowboy1997,
I would also invite you to check out an older discussion where Nissen Fundoplication Reversal has been discussed by other members:

Have you spoken to your surgeon about reversing the procedure? What do they feel about any risk factors or complications?
Hi @cowboy1997,
According to the journal Cough, chronic cough can be symptom of obstructive sleep apnea: http://bit.ly/2g6SkwQ

Mayo diagnosed me with mild sleep apnea, but since I've lost 60 pounds from ceasing PPIs and other drugs, they believe that this has probably been cured for me. They'd have to retest me to make sure.
Another thing that Mayo thinks may have been caused by my GERD is mild asthma. Now that my fundoplication is complete and was successful, they expect my asthma do go away also.
I had fundiplication surgery in August of 2015 due to a large hiatal hernia that was pressing on my lung. For months afterwards I had stomach pain. I went back to the GI specialist and after tests I was diagnosed with gastroparesis. Apparently the vagus nerve was damaged during the surgery. It is a terrible disease and it has changed my life. I am trying to do the best I can by limiting my diet and eating smaller meals more frequently. I only wish i had sought a second opinion before having the surgery. I was unaware of the risk of damage to the vagus nerve.
I had the fundiplication done after I was diagnosed with idiopathic gastroparesis but the Dr accidentally cut my spleen and because he couldn't stop the bleeding he had to remove it. Wished I'd never had it done. I just wanted the gastric pacemaker implanted so I could eat again, which it does work, but he insisted I have the fundiplication & pylori plasty done also. I wouldn't want anyone to have the the fundiplication. The gastric pacemaker yes, it has changed my life.
I had a nissen fundoplication done Nov.1,2016. It was done in pittsburgh,pa. by Dr. Blair jobe. On Nov.22, 2016 after having 5 incidences of food sticking i had to have my first dilation. Then on Jan. 10, 2017 i had to have a second dilation due to 3 more incidences of food sticking. Currently i can eat chicken as long as it is cut up to less than 1 inch long and must have it with gravy. I also have gotten use to drinking a lot of ensure. I still get heartburn at times. The surgeon has me back on 30 mg x2 of prevacid as well as 1000mg x 4 of sucralfate tablets. Still i get the bloating feeling, nausea, gag reflex, and lots of gas. This is the 116 th day after the initial operation. I was initially diagnosed with low grade barrett's dysplasia. I do have rheumatoid arthritis and control it with 4 mg of predsinone as well as 1-2 10 mg of oxycodone. My hope was to get back on Mobic (NSAID) to help control all my RA pain. I've tried it 3 times and got horrific heartburn. The reason the doc gave was that if the pill hits any part of the esophagus on the way down to the LES the esophagus will get irritated. 1 month before the initial operation i was on the heavy doses of the antacid described above. i had no reflux or heartburn with this "kitchen sink" regime of antacids. I wish I didn't have this operation because of all the bad side effects. I even use miralax once per day to keep the requirenebt of 1 bile movement/day. i am considering having the reversal because of the gag syndrome which comes on at any time. There are times when i felt breathing may have been difficult. i also have 2 artificial knees and 1 artificial left hip. The left hip cup will need replaced within 1 year because it was the soft plastic. The left knee will need replaced probably within 2 years. Can anyone shed light on if they have had the nissen reversed? I also have a problem with oral thrush due to RA. Anytime i eat a starch or sugar i get more thrush and need nystatin swish and spit 4 times a day. I also clen the tongue with a 50-50 mix of hydrogen peroxide with a napkin..... Any feedback on nissen reversal would be appreciated. I'm 65 years old and weigh 167 lbs..... thank you
I had one dilation but still have problems but not as bad as yours. Wish I had never had it done. I still can't vomit if I need to just dry heaves. Miserable!
