Stroke Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment
Has anyone had Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments to supplement physical therapy, etc. I saw something on CBS Sunday Morning about Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments and then did web searches. I'm looking for more information on whether it is feasible.

Hi, @mlg2733 - it sounds like you are looking for additional stroke recovery tools. Good for you for doing online research to investigate.
I'd like you to meet some members who have talked about hyperbaric oxygen treatment for various conditions, including @harveym @thompsonm @lioness @rafaelquinones @artscaping @baz123.
@mlg2733 - it would be great to hear more details. Did you or someone you know have a stroke? What potential benefits of hyperbaric oxygen treatment would you hope to see?
Hi, Lisa. Thank you for responding. My nephew at 56 was vacationing in Bora Bora las December. My understanding is that he was wakeboarding and fell. He was wearing a helmet. He went to dinner with family members; came home & had a drink or two. He went to bed, woke up to go to the bathroom and fell. His wife (a doctor) told him he was having a stroke. She contacted other family members and ultimately he was transferred from his hut by helicopter to Tahiti. It was a hemorrhagic stroke. He had a craniectomy & remained in Tahiti for 3 weeks & was then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital and two different Spaulding Hospitals until mid-May when he was discharged to his home.
Hi, Lia. How do I contact @harveym @thompsonm @lioness @rafaelquinones @artscartscaping @baz123.? My nephew currently has a trainer who comes to his home & has virtual speech therapy. He's able to walk with a single cane and is working on his gait. He can eat, talk, and communicate pretty well. He would like to do as much as possible to continue his improvement; i.e., can't use his left arm, hand & has left neglect. I saw a segment on CBS Sunday morning about hyperbaric oxygen treatment. I did some research & he thinks it's worth trying if he can get approval from his physiatrist. I told him about "the puzzle man" saying ping pong helped him although he played it regularly before his stroke. Flint rehab has specific tools. Does anyone know if they're worthwhile?
Hi, @mlg2733 - I'd imagine your nephew's experience having a hemorrhagic stroke on a vacation in Bora Bora has been a huge surprise and a truly challenging turn of events.
I tagged, or mentioned, the Mayo Clinic Connect members you inquired about with their usernames so they're aware of your question about hyperbaric oxygen and whether that therapy can be useful following a stroke or any other condition.
Others on Mayo Clinic Connect who've talked about hemorrhagic stroke and may have thoughts on the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to boost recovery include @zerodas @raye @ken82 @jessica79.
mlg2733—You mentioned your nephew has done virtual speech therapy and has a trainer coming to his home. Are you looking into hyperbaric oxygen therapy to improve the use of his left arm and hand, and to help with the left neglect/hemispatial neglect? What are your nephew's thoughts about talking to his physiatrist about this therapy and whether it can be approved?
Hi, Lisa. Is there something that has a summary of how to use this tool? I've been retired for 8 years and not as good online as I use to be.
I read that hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help with his arm & hand and several other things. I was hoping that people who read this area of the Mayo blog would be able to give me & my nephew input on areas on what may be out there that my nephew could try while he is working with a trainer and getting speech therapy. His vocal chords were damaged while he was in Tahiti. He's made great progress. Honestly his progress is nothing short of a miracle.
