Inconsiderate, intimidating neighbors cause depression and anxiety?
Lets; say you have neighbors that sit outside your apartment building, smoke "weed" in public view (which is illegal) and use intimidating gestures towards you as you come and go. Could this be enough to cause legitimate depression and anxiety?

Update: No people at all hanging out smoking weed and threatening residents in front of the apartment building for over a week! The people are still here. Something definitely happened. As noted above I believe the landlord gave a final warning. But I also now believe that the police may have had some kind of contact with the tenants and landlord.
My anxiety is better now. I still get anxious coming back to the apartment complex property but it's not nearly as bad as it was even a few days ago. I can't say for certain that this is over but when compared to what was going on I would say there is good chance that it is. I said before that it should be over by Christmas. Well, it looks like it might be by Thanksgiving! I will update again if anything changes.
I would like to share some of what I learned from this situation that may be helpful to someone else in a similar situation:
In general, the landlord of a rental property holds the power to stop and/or remove illegal behavior and the police have the authoritative information (the proof) to allow the landlord to exercise their power legally. This is a powerful, effective combination. So document and report each incident early on to both, request confidentiality and make sure the police give the landlord a copy of the reports.
Update: The nuisance and potential danger came back. Last night as I was coming back to apartment I had to pass by two of the men smoking "weed" right out in front of the building. The skunky smell was very strong. They didn't threaten me but they looked rough and mean. There's absolutely no saying a friendly "hello" to them.
I believe I was right the first time: These people are so persistent that they will need to be physically removed from the property by law enforcement if their behavior is to stop. This should happen by Christmas because I am almost positive that the landlord has given them a final warning. I also believe the police may be involved.
There are families who live in this building. I can't believe this is still happening here in this nice complex. There is a park near the building that the people could go to smoke and no one here would ever know. Why do they smoke directly in front of the apartment building where people live? These people are the laziest scum I have ever seen.
I will update again when anything noteworthy happens.
@robertwills There could be a couple of reasons why they don’t go to the park to smoke their weed: a) It’s a public place where children play so police may have been involved by parents to remove them - easier to enforce since they don’t live there. b) they live in the building so they know there is more technicality involved in stopping them.
I hope things will be resolved by Christmas …
That could be but the park has many places were they can be in private. In fact all one would need to do is duck into the surrounding woods for a smoke. Of course they would have to walk back to the complex. These people are just plain lazy! Or now that I think about it, it's that they are also so defiant and inconsiderate. They are trying to make it their territory so they can do whatever they want, when they want. That's not going to happen here! As noted above they will need to be physically removed by law enforcement. I will update. Thank you for your good wishes!
@robertwills it definitely is defiance - also more convenient to smoke on home turf, especially in bad weather. 😐
