What natural remedies help MAC to not worsten (as quickly).
I have recently been diagnosed with MAC but have very few symptoms - weariness and some congestion. I wake up eager for the day after a good night's sleep (9hours) but by afternoon I fizzle out. I use a PEP apparatus, saline nebulizer, sinus rinses, and a daily inhaler. Are there other natural remedies I should start/include. I'm 85 years old and have had asthma since my teens. I've lived a very active life. My spinal scoliosis/stenosis has limited my mobility these days to my sorrow.
Thanks for listening.

As one doctor has said, "The three pillars of Bronchiectasis are (1) airway clearance (2) airway clearance and (3) airway clearance.
Watching some videos on airway clearance could help you pick up come techniques you may be missing if you have not tried that.
Even if you are unable to exercise ( which I know must be very disheartening for you ) then any type active movement will help. Are you able to swim or go for a walk? Swimming could allow you to be weightless to take pressure off your back.
Try to be mindful of your nutrition. A well rounded diet (with lots of protein) goes a long way towards mending our bodies, healthy bodies and not so healthy bodies.
Those things are the only proven "natural" remedies I know of that work. I'm not much on all the supplements or additives as they are generally unregulated and not proven to help.
If you are new to this group, keep reading here. Lots of support and the moderator is a wealth of commonsense information as well as direction to research info.
With all of us being different in all ways , as we know and understand there are those who do take a vitamin or mineral supplement(s) and those that do.
I prefer not to take anything that we do not have naturally in our own chemistry to keep us going and alive nor anything that is not naturally in our common foods that we eat.
With that said, I take Vitamin D regularly, Zinc, C and Garlic. Also make garlic tea with the ginger root.
If you do not have any health problems that would keep you from trying and taking those you might consider them with checking out research on them if you are not familiar with them. My sister has worked in the health food industry for over thirty years and in particular the vitamin supplement area. She has not had any major chemistry health problem other than finding out several years ago that she had low vitamin D level, as many of us eventually do.
Thought I would mention all of this if you aren't familiar with just these few supplements.
P.S. I am 82 and have taken supplements since childhood (my Mother back in the forty's educated herself on nutrition and supplements) and have been able to "cure" myself of some health problems with eating right and the supplements. This BE (Bronchiectasis diagnosed 8/2022) and MAC (diagnosed 10/2023) is probably a different story however my recent follow up CScan showed two areas of improvement with less inflammation. Of course, that is me and we are all different....genes etc. etc.
Wishing you more good days than difficult days ahead, as well as for all of us on this journey.
Barbara
Wow, it is great to hear that there were areas of improvement. Is there anything else you can say about that?
How do you make the garlic tea? Garlic is supposed to be a natural antibiotic. Thank you!
Garlic has been discussed here:

Garlic tea would not be sufficiently strong to affect a lung infection. Tests using garlic (specifically on TB ) have shown a great deal of the active ingredient allicin needs to be inhaled to be effective. As of now there is no way to mesure a safe dose and deliver it without damaging delicate lung tissue.
Possibly because I finally understood and found my way to an airway clearance postural drainage position(s) that I could do and felt safe doing. Also possibly because I improved my understanding of the deep breathing methods needed to help get air behind the mucus plugs to help get them up and out before doing the huff coughing. Possibly because I drink a great deal of water to loosen the mucus, possibly because I boil a great deal of water and try to keep the house from causing too much dry air. Possibly because I do self "percussion" on my lungs, front and back as often as I can and especially before the final morning routines leading up to the air way clearance of huff coughing. Possibly because I try to eat healthy to keep my immune system up. Possibly more things than I realize. Who knows.
Hard to know exactly but like in many things in life it is never just one thing it is usually several things that bring about change and all working together.
You are amazing! If ever you are up for a phone call I would love to talk to you because I do feel that disciplines of this sort go a very long way. I drink warm water all day long and it has generally been a saving grace for me—and I almost exclusively eat soups. Please let me know if you are interested in talking and O will send my email so we can coordinate. 🤗
Thank you for the response and links. I’m pretty new to the site—and a longtime survivor of severe TB contracted at age 19 in India.
Aah, that probably explains your bronchiectasis. Sevvere infections in the distant past can lead to this and MAC manyyears later.
