I am not in a position to argue (aging male who uses a toilet exclusively), but if I understand the principle behind a bidet, the jet of water might encourage intrusion into the urethra of unwanted bacteria from the vulva......or not....? I mean, it's not like bidets haven't been used by millions for about 120 years or more. Im just making a comment that, to me, I would desist from the use of a bidet if I had a female anatomy and were treating a UTI.
Contrary to your belief or idea -- washing a woman's genitals reduces infection and it better than just depending on TP to wipe.
The stream of water doesn't shoot into your urethra! It cleans the external area.

Does anyone know anything about cranberry supplements? My friend used to have almost chronic UTI’s and she takes a cranberry pill daily now that she buys at Costco and swears by them. Any thoughts?
I appreciate the links. I would not use a public bidet. Too many germs and who knows what is being spread to your vagina and urethra just as the article says. I have used one overseas in a hotel that was spic and span, but back home my Mother had one installed and we kept it spotless. Cleaned daily just like you clean your toilet. Bleach is best. There is not a nozzle on a good bidet, but a gentle stream that comes out of the bottom of the appliance. Not a sharp jet. Using a public one to me is gross and I would stick to toilet paper in that case. As the article says -- there is a correct way to use one. Flowing from front to back. We used it for years and years and never had a UTI. If I had the room in my BR here I would put one in for myself. I doubt my husband would use it.😁
UTI’s are caused by bacteria reaching and entering the urethra. Therefore, it makes logical sense to keep the area clean and germ free. I have had good response to adding cranberry cocktail juice to my daily water (32+ oz/day). This fluid intake flushes out the body toxins, hydrates tissues as well as, adding the known cranberry that is beneficial to our urinary tract. Since I am diabetic, I choose to buy the “zero sugar” bottled cranberry juice. I have used the cranberry supplement pills in the past, but I believe adding this extra curative liquid adds more benefits.
I hope this helps…

When I used to get chronic UTIs 3-4x a year I used OC Pyridium. It's the only thing that stopped the pain for me. I agree with using estrogen cream. You don't have to use it in the vagina although it would keep your bladder healthy because the vagina and bladder share the same wall. You can use the local non-systemic estradiol cream the size of a pea in the vulva (outer area) and urethra. That whole area has estrogen receptors. Coconut oil isn't going to stop any vulva, or urethra atrophy (goggle, urogenital atrophy). Lack of estrogen weakens the muscles of your urethra. This makes it easier for bacteria to enter your urethra and move up to your bladder. Estrogen keeps the thinning vulva and urethra at the correct pH. Estrogen helps vulva tissues and urethra stay elastic and moist. Please reconsider. There is a whole host of disabling unpleasant things that can happen with a lack of estrogen in this area. When I started using estrogen around the vulva my UTIs stopped. I am 74 and haven't had a UTI in 13 years or anything that feels like a UTI.
see an uro-gynecologist, I drive an hour or more to some of the doctors because of limited care in my area, I was prescribed Cibrofloxacin 500mg, for 3 days, twice daily for UTI, it worked.
I suggest you look for a different urologist. You need to have a PCR test rather than a standard urine culture. You need to find out what organisms are causing the problem. Our bladders are not sterile. We normally have a whole host of organisms living in them naturally and normally.
It is when the balance of organisms gets out of whack or another different organism, not normally growing there, starts growing and overwhelms the system the naturally occuring organisms that things get out of whack. Good luck.
Also find a good quality cranberry-mannose capsule and take them according to your urologist's instructions.

You may be correct, but it seems the science isn't very convincing:

Always interesting to know what helps others !
All information is valuable !!!
my uro-gyn nurse suggests vaginal estrogen cream, 2x a week, 1 dose, for post menopausal women, if you suffer from frequent UTIs-
I agree! Thanks for sharing.
Great advice. I know that the oldways do not work for everyone. I assume it worked for you?
